You Don’t Think We Are Doomed?

May 8, 2013

A Reader’s Digest Poll provided proof that we are, indeed, doomed. It conducted a poll of 1000 people (how that few people can actually be construed to represent the entire country is perplexing) to find who the most trusted people in the country are. The results are just plain stupid – and frightening.

Number one on the list is Tom Hanks, followed by Sandra Bullock, Denzel Washington, and Meryl Streep. Reading the rest just numbs the senses further. If this country is as enamored with movie stars and celebrities as this poll suggests, it is just a matter of time until we implode from the vacuous mindset that prevails.

Think about this for a second. Movie stars make a living pretending to be someone else or, in other words, making you believe in something that is not real – and this makes them trustworthy in people’s eyes. Following this rationale, it should not be surprising that Obama and Hillary Clinton also showed up on the list, though far below the movie stars.

If you think this is just an anomaly, recall that John Stewart, a comedian, was once deemed the most trusted “newsman” in the country – possibly by the same 1000 people polled for Reader’s Digest. Even if it were the same 1000 people, it would still be frightening to know that many crazy people are loose in society – and their votes count as much as yours does. Further proof of our demise is certain to show up in future polls when the legalization of marijuana becomes widespread.

Yes, we are doomed.

Food Stamps for Pets

February 26, 2013

There is a newly launched, NY-based, non-profit organization providing food stamps for pets to qualifying pet owners. In just two weeks, the organization has received 12,000 requests for assistance.

This is not surprising considering the poor economy, joblessness, and the amount of people receiving food stamps (which cannot be used for pet food). This organization, however, is run by a private citizen, Marc Okon, concerned for the welfare of animals owned by those in need themselves.

Considering that Americans spent $53 billion on pets in 2012, up 5% from 2011, it is a good bet that this pet food stamp program will catch on. Americans love their pets, often more than they love their neighbors. That’s also why PETA rivals the ACLU in fighting on behalf of perceived victims.

The lesson here, however, is that private citizens (Americans) DO care and if the government curtailed handouts, any assistance gap would eventually be filled by caring citizens. That is also evident by the many homeless kitchens and church food drives providing needed food assistance in their communities. They do not rely on taxes. They rely on the American Spirit.

The current, and rising, record number of people receiving food stamps (over 47 million) is labeled as necessary help from the government. However, there are many instances where the government’s “help” stopped or inhibited private citizens’ attempts to feed the homeless on their own. Left alone and fully encouraged, a citizen-based approach could make food stamps disappear or, at the very least, decline in numbers.

Food stamps for pets will most probably be embraced and succeed, especially if the government can stay out of it. Since pets do not vote, yet, the government has no interest in getting them hooked on assistance. However, pet owners do vote and they may find themselves getting government handouts for their pets in the near future. That will depend on the next election’s polling.

Glenn Beck’s Happy Warriors

August 31, 2010

Did you see this from the Wall Street Journal? Those who attended 8/28 should be proud.

Pundits will debate whether the crowd at Glenn Beck’s Saturday rally in Washington was the largest in recent political history, but it was certainly among the most impressive.

Mr. Beck is a television host and radio broadcaster with a checkered past and a penchant for incendiary remarks. But if he’s judged by the quality of people of all colors that he attracted to the Lincoln Memorial, his stock can’t help but rise.

One would not be able to find a more polite crowd at a political convention, certainly not at a professional sporting event, probably not even at an opera. In fact, judging by the behavior of the attendees following the event, you’d have a tough time finding churches in which people display more patience as others make their way to the exits.

This army of well-mannered folks that marched into Washington seemed comprised mainly of people who had once marched in the U.S. Army or other military branch, or at least had a family member who had. Perhaps that’s not surprising, given that the event was a fund-raiser for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which provides scholarships to the children of elite troops killed in the performance of their duty. The day was largely devoted to expressions of gratitude for the sacrifices of U.S. soldiers, for great men of American history like the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and for God.

November is Coming Bus Tour in Western PA, Coming To Bucks Tomorrow

August 6, 2010

From the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, here’s a story about the November Is Coming bus tour’s stops in Western PA. They’ll be in Washington Crossing on Saturday. http://wp.me/pBslf-13h

Leaders of a conservative political advocacy group came to Hempfield on Thursday to encourage Westmoreland County voters to mobilize for door-to-door and phone-bank campaigns to defeat congressional candidates who support liberal policies.

In particular, heads of the Americans for Prosperity group targeted Democratic Rep. Mark Critz, who won a special election in May to succeed his boss, the late Rep. John Murtha.

Group officials, who espouse free-market principles and limited government, are conducting a bus tour of swing districts here and in Midwestern states.

They stopped yesterday at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel to hand out a Critz-related flier that residents can distribute in their neighborhoods.

The flier, depicting Critz’s headshot next to a photo of a smiling House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with her arms raised, asks, “Will he vote in lock step with the Pelosi agenda?”

“We know what Nancy Pelosi’s radical agenda is, and she needs Mr. Critz to continue on her path,” said Steve Lonegan, a former small-town mayor who is the group’s New Jersey state director. “And she needs to be stopped.”

Think Before You Vote

May 17, 2010

Tomorrow is election day, and what is decided in voting booths across this country can start Morning in America all over again.  (Remember Ronald Reagan’s Morning in America commercial?)

The decisions you make as you push the buttons have never been more important.

Republican committee members will be out in force, pushing sample ballots at you and telling you who to vote for. But once you enter the voting booth and the curtain is pulled, the choice is yours alone.

That choice, in the end, is relatively simple for many of the races. Do you want the candidate of the status quo? The candidate who has been anointed and appointed by the party powers that be and is beholden to them? The candidate who has gotten money, and plenty of it, from people and companies looking for special favors? (check out our recent post: The Quid Pro Quo of Campaign Donations.

Before you push those buttons, consider whether the endorsed party  candidates can change things in Harrisburg, in D.C., or in the local Republican committee if they’re beholden to a few people. How can things change if you don’t change the ideas and the principles of those running for office? Sure, you might be voting for the R instead of the D in November, but if the R has been to Washington in the past, if they’re the favored candidate according to the professional politicians and the people donating money, how will they change politics as usual?

We’ve listed the Thomas Jefferson Club members running for Republican State Committee here: TJC Members Running for State Committee Seats. Please consider voting for these conservatives who have stepped up and committed their time, money, and efforts to improving the Republican Party, to returning to the principles of small government and fiscal responsibility.

The Thomas Jefferson Club isn’t the only group working to get new blood into local and state committee seats, and fresh ideas and conservative candidates into elected office at every level. Here’s an article from the Daily Times about efforts in Delaware County to do the same. Delco Patriots Look to Make Inroads in Local GOP

Consider carefully, as you push those buttons, if you want to vote for a candidate who is committed to truly changing the way government works at every level, or if it’s someone who will continue politics as usual.

BEWARE of Tea Party Infiltrators

April 12, 2010

Since there is little proof of racism or outlandish behavior at tea parties, there now seems to be a movement afoot from frustrated progressives to send infiltrators to tea parties toting racist and offensive signs and giving interviews to reporters in order to smear the tea parties in the way they want them to be seen (http://tinyurl.com/ydkpg2a). It is one more indication of how much the left fears the tea parties and how far they will go to quiet them.

This makes it that much more important for true tea party attendees to self-monitor all gatherings and make attempts to have offensive signs removed and offensive behavior stopped. If an infiltrator trying to smear the tea party is found, it would be good press to have him and his group exposed for all to see. Racism is a favorite tool of the left, therefore, racist comments can be expected from infiltrators and they must be invalidated whenever possible.

It is also important to remember that violence must never, ever be used or insinuated. That, too, can be expected to be instigated by infiltrators who desperately want the tea parties to be seen as promoting violence. The media has helped promote this idea, therefore, extra vigilance is needed.

Interesting Information from a Scott Brown Supporter

January 29, 2010

Here’s an interesting blog post from a Scott Brown supporter describing what he learned from the Brown election.

I want to pass on what I learned, observed, and did during the Scott Brown Massachusetts Miracle stunning election win in a very Blue state here. I think when many say that this can’t be done in a state like California I say WRONG. I have personal goal to do everything I can to help send Boxer, Pelosi and Reid packing next election. I will summarize what can be learned from Scott Brown and hope you can replicate.

* People are fed up and mad at the elitist left wing of the Democratic party. Brown won the election as he took 75% of the Independent voters and 25% of the democratic vote.  He played to Fiscal Conservative principle’s and defined the race to the issues. Fiscal sanity and the out of control DC spending ways are not working. He also did a great job defining the excessive costs  and negatives related to Cap and Trade and the Government takeover Healthcare Bill.

* He also was out tirelessly meeting with the people. While Martha Coakley assumed she had the liberal base and  ran a safe race and stuck to big ticket fundraisers, back door politics with Unions, special interest groups. etc.

* A few grassroots things he did creatively was he went to Fenway Park, Diners, on and on and drove across the state meeting with the people in his truck.  This common man approach and availability resonated with the voters.

* He smartly tapped into the teaparty voter base with many lower priced breakfasts and fundraisers. What did that do?  It gave the average person access to him and his message. I went to a few events at $25 – $35 and they were packed with a great cross section of the state. $5,000 and $10,000 plate events sure draw big $ but that Hurt Martha Coakley perception wise hob knobbing in DC last week of Election.

* Run a clean and positive campaign. Stay positive, talk to the issues you are on the right side on all of them. You have a huge advantage with the issues. To that point insist and get as many debates as you can. Scott Brown buried Coakley in last TV debate.
