Al Sharpton – Again and Again

Al Sharpton has not been elected by anyone to anything, yet he continues to see himself as a leader. Exactly what he is supposed to be leading is not clear, but the media continues to boost his ego by taking him seriously. MSNBC’s Ed Schultz, another delusional ideologue, was in full agreement with Sharpton’s latest quest for relevance.

Sharpton is upset that the FCC allows “people to say what they want” on the airwaves. Singling out Rush Limbaugh for his attack, Sharpton wants the FCC to ban any remarks (most particularly Rush’s) “that in an explicit or even an implicit way practice racism or sexism or homophobia on the airwaves”.

Many may agree with the “explicit” part, but who will make the determination of the “implicit” racism? Sharpton has already made his determination and is demanding that everyone bow to his superior judgment. He is, and has been, in contact with the FCC, trying hard to pressure a decision that will ban Rush Limbaugh from the airwaves. It is unclear why the FCC even grants an audience to Sharpton, but it does.

Al should be careful about what he wishes. If the FCC decides to follow Al’s magnanimous guidance, the changing tide of politics could easily sweep him, along with Schultz, Olbermann, Maddow and many other hate-spewing “progressives” off the airwaves. They have no qualms about labeling anyone as a racist and, consequently, fomenting racism.  A new administration, not sympathetic to progressive thought, may easily deem many of their remarks as “implicitly” racist and hateful.

It is highly doubtful Al would appreciate a different administration’s interpretation of any new FCC rules. This is a common flaw in the thinking of many progressives when they demand legislation to further their ideology. That sword has two edges and it can cut both ways. It is not merely wishful thinking to believe that Al could be censored by the exact legislation he is seeking. It is a very real possibility. That’s why any censoring of free speech must be treated very seriously.

One can only hope that the batteries in Sharpton, the racism Energizer Bunny, will finally loose their charge. It is time for him to fade away like his relevance has.
