Oh Boy. This is Not A Good Report

Mike Fitzpatrick was sworn in as our congressman on Wednesday. So which Mike will represent us – Tea Party Mike or Moderate Mike?

Recall his first term in Congress in 2005 and 2006. Fitz was listed among the most liberal Republicans in the House, an environmentalist with Sierra Club cred, and a member of the climate change cap ‘n trade choir.

Recall, too, as the rightward tea party movement rolled through Bucks County in 2009, he looked upon it with chilly curiosity, standing quietly at the back of the room at their crowded meetings.

When Bucks tea partiers (led by women) mobilized and began turning ordinary Joes and Josephines into hundreds of door-knocking foot soldiers for the cause of constitutionally restrained government and fiscal sanity, he traded his greenie beanie for a tricorn hat, dissed global warming and called for the repeal of ObamaCare.

Two Mikes. Which will it be in D.C.?

On Monday, I went to his town hall meeting at Bucks County Community College, where he fielded questions in a half-empty auditorium. I talked to him afterward as we hustled through a freezing parking lot, and talked to him again on the phone the next morning.
