Rahm Emanuel Smackdown

Rahm Emanuel was smacked down by a state appellate court ruling stating that a one-year residency requirement for mayoral candidates was not met and, therefore, Emanuel cannot run for Mayor of Chicago. Emanuel forgot that he was no longer in the White House mode of operation where he can make up rules as he goes along. We will now see if the Chicago political machine will just override the court decision in some way and bypass the requirement. Don’t hold your breath for Emanuel’s disappearance from the Chicago mayor race.

From the Chicago Tribune

Rahm Emanuel should not appear on the Feb. 22 mayoral ballot, according to a ruling issued by a state appellate court today.

Emanuel told a news conference he would appeal the decision to the Illinois Supreme Court and would ask for an injunction so his name will appear on the mayoral ballot.

In a 2-1 ruling, the appellate panel said Emanuel does not meet the residency requirement of having lived in Chicago for a year prior to the election. The judges reversed a decision by the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, which had unanimously agreed that Emanuel was eligible to run for mayor…The city clerk said many people thought Emanuel’s victory was a “foregone conclusion” because of the amount of money Emanuel has raised.

I wouldn’t get all goose bumpy over this news. Chicago is as corrupt as it gets and Obama has a lot of markers to pull in. You can rest assure Rahm WILL be the Mayor of Chicago. And they deserve him.
