Legacy?

January 20, 2016

Democrats are praising Obama’s “diplomatic relations” with Iran, hailing the release of four prisoners who were held for years as proof of improved relations. Obama’s dealings with Iran seem to be solidifying his legacy but what, exactly, will that legacy be?

Obama essentially traded 21 for 4 by offering clemency to seven Iranians pending trial in the US and dismissing charges and extradition requests against fourteen others not in the US. This follows his swap of five terrorists from Gitmo for Sgt. Bergdahl who now faces a court-marshal for desertion. With lopsided numbers such as those, Obama’s prisoner exchange negotiations have come under harsh criticism.

His “nuclear deal” with Iran, which he desperately pursued, came after allowing Iran time to hide its nuclear weapons program and, thereby, receive $100 billion in assets frozen by sanctions. These assets were released just hours after the latest prisoners swap, suspiciously looking like a ransom for the prisoners. It certainly suggests that kidnapping US citizens can be lucrative so it should not come as a surprise if more US citizens are taken. Perhaps the three kidnapped in Baghdad are a direct result. You can bet North Korea took notice.

It is always a good thing to get prisoners back but our policy of not negotiating with terrorists seems to have been thrown by the wayside to do so. If (many think it’s just a mater of when) Iran obtains a nuclear weapon, Obama’s legacy will become a nightmare and his lopsided prisoner swaps will no longer seem positive even by those now drinking the Obama Kool-Aid.

There has been an embarrassing desperation to Obama’s dealings (appeasement?) with Iran and he has treated Israel, a staunch ally, like a terrorist nation while courting Iran as a desirable and legitimate nation beneficial to US interests. That is only beneficial to Obama’s interests and it is his legacy that interests him the most. However, the legacy he is building is a house of cards on the verge of tumbling down – and we may all be forced to pay the price.

A Bumpy Cruz to NY

January 15, 2016

Forget ISIS, unemployment, Obamacare, disastrous foreign policies, runaway illegal immigration, executive orders, Hillary scandals, Iran’s nuclear program, and even Donald Trump. The New York Daily News is in an uproar over Ted Cruz dissing New York during the Republican debate, declaring on its front page: “Drop Dead, Ted”. There goes Obama’s plea for political civility.

Cruz disparagingly accused Trump of having “New York values” which he defined: “…in New York City are socially liberal, are pro-abortion, are pro-gay-marriage, focused around money and the media”. These are the values behind NY Mayor DeBlasio’s attempt to ban large sodas and president Obama’s attempts to “transform America” according to his personal views – and they are the values known to be held by a majority in NY City.

Conservatives not from NY get it and understand what Cruz was saying. Those from NY City, both liberal and conservative, take it as a personal insult because many New Yorkers have the parochial view that the world revolves around NY City and everything outside the city limits is unsophisticated and crude. Consequently, saying anything negative about NY City or its residents may be the only thing that can bring New Yorkers from both sides of the aisle together in agreement – at least for a day or two.

Talking heads on FOX News, MSNBC, and all those in between are taking umbrage at Ted’s “insult”. Iran’s insult of capturing, handcuffing, then releasing 10 American sailors did not produce as much across-the-board outrage. In fact, Kerry and Obama praised Iran’s “diplomacy” over that incident in their continuing and embarrassing appeasement of Iran. One can image, then, their chagrin over Ted’s comments.

This is how far we have “progressed” under the political tutelage of the left-leaning media and the Obama administration. We may have “progressed” too far to turn back but the coming presidential election is the best shot to try to do so. Please vote – and vote wisely.

Obama Failures Piling Up

December 11, 2015

Obama’s failed foreign policies have become widely acknowledged, especially with regard to the Middle East and ISIS. Recent attacks in Paris and the U.S. have made a mockery of his disregard of terrorist threats and his refusal to name the enemy. However, this is but one area where he has failed and we must not forget his other failures piling up.

According to Forbes, “Obamacare’s coverage expansion fell between 6 and 12 million short of expectations, while driving the growth of health spending to its highest rate in 7 years”. UnitedHealth Group has lost hundreds of millions of dollars from offering coverage on the Obamacare exchanges and is considering pulling out. The CBO says Obamacare will cause the loss of 2 million jobs over the next decade, shrinking the workforce by approximately 1%. Due to the high cost of health coverage, 32 million people remain uninsured. This is a failure by anyone’s standards.

Although there has been a slight increase in jobs, many people have stopped looking for employment and far too many can only find part-time employment. The numbers, therefore, are skewed and the 5% unemployment rate is misleading since 94.7 million working age Americans (29% of the population) are considered not in the labor force. Meanwhile, the national debt continues to rise.

Our border remains dangerously unsecured and the influx of illegals is sucking up government funds. Obama released terrorists from GITMO who return to the battlefield. His refusal to compromise has increased partisanship in an already partisan Congress. Racial unrest is increasing and his “Leading from behind” has become a joke, leaving our country leaderless and no longer trusted throughout the world. His focus on climate change (aka global warming), which he calls our biggest threat, has produced nothing and his rhetorical nuclear agreement with Iran is being ignored as Iran continues its nuclear weapons pursuit with impunity.

In the face of all these failures and more, Obama remains arrogantly aloof, out of touch, and fumblingly non-reactive. Democrats have blindly backed Obama through all of this and must be held accountable. One can only hope we can survive another year before voting for a change – and we must vote for a change.

Marching For Free

November 13, 2015

Free public college, cancellation of student debts, and $15 an hour minimum wage for people who work on campus. Those were the core demands made by students across the country protesting in the Million Student March.

Neil Cavuto on the Fox Business Network interviewed a student spokesperson for the march and it was nothing short of embarrassing. The “free” stuff demanded was to be paid for by the 1% and when presented with the fact that taxing the 1% at a 100% rate wouldn’t be enough to pay for it, the student simply said she didn’t believe that.

Perhaps $15 an hour for students working on campus is a good idea for schools that have been indoctrinating students with such “beliefs”. They could simply raise the cost of the “free” tuition, increasing student debts that are to be “cancelled”. Many students could then begin making money by attending college, becoming “professional students” working toward degrees that have no earning potential.

College student protests used to be about issues such as civil rights, women’s rights, the Vietnam War, the Iraq War, etc. Even when student demonstrations were naively misguided, they displayed an idealistic sense of reality. “Free Mumia” has now turned into “Free stuff”, and a new generation is making its mark.

Reality check: No one is forced to take out a huge student loan or to attend a school costing $50-60k a year; terms of paying back student loans are understood and agreed upon up front; the amount of a loan is as important a decision as is the choice of school to attend; degrees in Parks Recreation, Fine Arts, or Liberal Arts from Ivy League schools do not increase employment opportunities or command higher salaries if a job can be found; college isn’t for everyone; and “free” stuff is not free.

Perhaps that is too harsh to hear for a generation used to: Not being graded; not hearing “no”; being told they are all great; playing soccer with no score-keeping; getting participation trophies; posting selfies on Facebook; wearing helmets and knee pads on tricycles; government freebies; parent’s providing health care until the age of 26; mood altering medication; political correctness; and rights without responsibility.

Reality scan be tough to take – as tough as watching the Million Student March.

Black Lies Matter

November 12, 2015

Regardless of one’s opinion concerning the Black Lives Matter movement, disgraceful actions taken by members taints the entire movement and elicits scorn rather than respect. The movement’s intended message has been totally lost in a sea of ignorant acts.

The trampling and burning of the American flag outside the Republican debates is the latest example of such acts coming from movement members. Adding to their ignorance, some BLM protesters circulated rumors that police deployed tear gas on them when, in fact, the police were only using a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. Black lies matter, too, and they certainly don’t help credibility.

These acts cannot be passed off as exuberance or mere exaggeration on the part of the protesters. They come from a misguided hatred of the country instilled by lies and distortions from so-called “leaders” using victimization as a tool to advance their personal agenda. This victimization has been kept alive over the years by shifting blame from slavery to “whitey” to the government to the police and to the entire county. It now drives the BLM movement and valid complaints have been lost in the hatred.

This movement has tacitly and often vocally encouraged the killing of police officers and that encouragement has resulted in the murder of several police officers, the same officers who put their lives on the line to protect the community where the protesters live. They also protect the right of protesters to protest but that doesn’t “matter”.

The level this has reached is astounding and the consequences are frightening. Yet, it continues with no regard or respect for anything outside the narrow point-of-view dictated by “leaders”. Anyone daring to state the obvious, that all lives matter, is labeled a racist as is anyone who does not blindly follow the “leader”.

This is part of the far-left’s “transformation of America” and it has turned into the desecration of America, but maybe that was the intention all along. America-bashing has always been a favorite far-left pastime and, unfortunately, it is has now become part of the BLM movement.

Thoughts on the Debatable Debates

August 9, 2015

The recent Republican presidential candidate debates may have been good TV and more entertaining than many political events, but they often leaned towards a TV reality show more than a serious debate.

In the early show debate, it was obvious to all that Carly Fiorina is a serious candidate who knows how to make sense and succinctly express concerns of conservatives. Her knowledge and gravitas was impressive and, hopefully, she will gain momentum. She certainly ran away with this debate and deserves to be on the main stage.

In the prime time debate, Donald Trump’s ego and arrogance crowded the already crowded stage, providing a circus sideshow ambiance. His in-your-face and direct approach to major issues has been refreshing for many conservatives and it has put the other candidates on notice that drifting to the left and appeasing progressives is not the way to go. However, his insults, attacks on critics, and overall crude behavior is already getting stale and his threat of running as an independent is arrogantly dangerous to the GOP.

A mini debate broke out between Christie and Rand with true animosity being displayed. Rand’s sneering facial expressions and rolling of his eyes did not make him an attractive candidate. Christie showed more restraint and self-control, but both seemed ready to go at each other’s throat and turn the debate into a Jerry Springer show. Neither gained ground in the exchange.

Bush was listless and seemed out of his element. Rubio’s youth and manicured look accompanied by his fluid speaking ability was reminiscent of JFK, making him very appealing. John Kasich brought a moral outlook to the debate and made sense on the controversial gay marriage issue and the frustration many Americans feel. Walker sounded reasonable in his responses but still came off as an also-ran candidate while Huckabee was Huckabee, a decent candidate but somehow unelectable.

Ben Carson helped his chances by remaining calm, collected, witty and knowledgeable on a stage where the chaos of Trump always loomed. His obvious intelligence was on display but he seemed to lack the passion needed for a sustained campaign. Perhaps a bump from this debate will convince him to jump in with both feet and go for the gold.

These debates will result, hopefully, in weaning out a few candidates. It was interesting and revealing that many social issues progressives seem obsessed with were never mentioned. That’s a good sign because they need to take a back seat to the more serious and dangerous issues plaguing the country. One can only hope the Republican candidates will keep that in mind and not get sucked into the progressive agenda.

Politically Incorrect Facts

June 9, 2015

One of the few people courageous enough to be politically incorrect is Ann Coulter and she does it simply by stating facts – with an “in-your-face” attitude. For this progressive transgression she is scorned and demeaned, but rarely are her facts proven wrong. Currently, she is a voice of reason warning of the danger runaway illegal immigration brings but, unfortunately, far too many people are wrapped up in political correctness to listen.

From Ann Coulter

Although you will miss the lush analytical context of the full case made in my smash new book, “Adios, America : The Left’s Plan to Turn Our Country Into a Third World Hellhole”, here are some more startling facts from my book that the anti-American crowd doesn’t want you to know:

Our ludicrous “anchor baby” policy was invented out of whole cloth by Justice William Brennan and slipped into a footnote in a Supreme Court opinion in 1982…If an illegal alien drops a baby on American soil, the entire family can access welfare programs that were supposed to be for U.S. citizens…On average, college graduates in the United States pay about $30,000 more in taxes each year than they get back in government services, while those without a high school degree get back about $35,000 more in government services than they pay in taxes…Only about 7 percent of Americans do not have a high school diploma…about 75 percent of illegal aliens do not have a high school diploma…after Israel completed a fence along its border in 2013, the number of illegal aliens entering the country dropped to zero (Contrary to repeated assertions that fences don’t work)… In 2010, New York state prisons held more than 4,000 inmates from 10 Latin American and Caribbean nations, and fewer than 150 inmates from all of Western Europe…There are already more Hispanics than whites in two states, New Mexico and California…

Underlying Cause

April 30, 2015

The death of Freddie Grey did not cause looting and burning in Baltimore any more than the death of Michael Brown caused looting and burning in Ferguson. Years of excusing such destructive rage caused it to become an acceptable and commonplace inner-city response to almost any offense.

Consequences for rioting have typically been government rebuilding funds and increases in community assistance – along with much media attention. Thus, rioting has basically been rewarded, not punished, and the free-for-all looting involved has enticed nefarious opportunists to actively inflame situations to create more rioting. It has become an industry.

For years the black community has been taught that they are victims and, as such, bear no personal responsibility. Blame for all ills has been placed on racism, slavery, Republicans, corruption, and white privilege – everything but personal behavior. Progressive liberals, aided by race hustlers, have convinced all too many in the black community that they are entitled victims unable to fend for themselves and it has been insulting and debilitating.

Racism exists (and most probably always will) and there are racist police officers who have committed atrocities, but it is not systematic any more than gunning down white police officers is systematic in the black community. Individuals in police departments and all communities are responsible for their actions and all need to understand this and be held accountable. Across-the-board indictments are inflammatory, non-productive, and ignorant.

Martin Luther King proved that peaceful protests work and he made enormous strides doing so, but that lesson is being turned to ashes in the riotous fires in cities such as Baltimore and Ferguson. Protests bring national attention that can produce positive results. Rioting brings attention but it also brings needless destruction, animosity, and more racial tension.

The focus continues to be on police transgressions, but until the black community seriously addresses lack of personal responsibility, race relations will continue to deteriorate, race hustlers will continue to exploit, liberals will continue to victimize, and inner cities will continue to burn. This is not a political or racial issue; it is a human issue.

The ObamaCar – Another Ideological Failure

December 6, 2014

Michelle Malkin informs us that Obama’s predicted 1 million electric cars on the road by 2015 will fall about 826,00 cars short of the target. Obama’s pie-in-the-sky green agenda dumped lots of stimulus money into electric cars (or, as they should be labeled, ObamaCars) and the “consensus” is that it has been an economic failure – one of many.

Much of the current failure of electric cars to catch on is due to cost and the difficulty of producing efficient batteries. The Obama administration dumped $2 billion stimulus dollars into new battery companies in the “hope” they would produce a breakthrough to help fill the roads with his electric cars. That, too, failed.

Fisker Automotive, which received a $500 million stimulus loan to produce electric cars (in Finland, not in the USA), went bankrupt last year, adding to the long list of stimulus failures. After bailing out GM, Obama praised the Chevy Volt like a new car dealer, making a campaign promise to buy one after leaving office. His campaign promises, however, have flopped as badly as sales of the Chevy Volt, so don’t hold your breath.

Electric cars aren’t a bad idea and they do work, but they are not far enough along in their development to be our main mode of transportation. Progressives, who “know” what’s best for everyone, are pushing (forcing?) these cars on us for our own good. They don’t care about cost, efficiency, practicality, or anything else that doesn’t fit their beliefs.

Obama’s entire green agenda has been based on what “should” be and not what “is” and cost means nothing because it’s only government money. If the dream fails, it’s no big deal. He’ll be out of office soon enough and cruising down the highway in his brand new Chevy Volt – given to him, free, by GM. At least he won’t have to drive a Fisker.

Another daydream; another dollar…make that a trillion dollars – and counting.

Red Moon Rising

December 16, 2013

Like many of Obama’s decisions, the canceling of NASA’s manned moon missions was shortsighted and blind to consequences. Giving up U.S. assumed squatter’s rights put the moon up for grabs and it didn’t take long for China to make a move. There is a red moon rising and the entire world is in its dangerous shadow.

China just became the first country in almost 40 years to soft-land a probe on the moon and plans to send its first astronaut to the moon by 2030, but what comes after that is a real concern. According to several reports, China has long-term plans for transforming the moon into a missile base.

The Want China Times claims that Chinese experts are discussing the possibility of establishing a missile base and/or a weapons testing site on the moon by the year 2050. Those who sneer at this idea cite international agreements banning weapons from space as a reason for skepticism, but they forget that similar international agreements against a nuclear Iran are proving to be useless.

Arming the moon dovetails with China’s recent sword-rattling such as sending warships to the coast of Syria, threatening nuclear strikes over US involvement with Taiwan, and imposing an air defense zone over disputed islands. This red moon is rising because of a perceived weakness in Obama and his foreign policies, a weakness becoming more and more evident, and dangerous, around the world.

Obama gave Iraq to Al Qaeda; he gave Russia credibility and influence in the Middle East; he gave Iran time to develop a nuclear weapon; he gave taxpayer money to “green” companies that failed miserably; he gave enormous debt to our grandchildren; he gave pink slips to millions of workers; he gave us a health insurance law that doesn’t work; and he gave the moon to China.

Please, Mr. President, stop giving.
