97% Bull

October 9, 2015

It is ridiculous that global warming enthusiasts continue to use the “97% scientific consensus” myth as a fact. Not only has it been thoroughly debunked, common sense tells us it is almost impossible to obtain a 97% consensus on anything. Nevertheless, the farce continues.

Recently, Ted Cruz grilled Sierra Club President Aaron Mair on climate change data and was subjected to an embarrassing repeated recitation of the 97% myth as “preponderance” of evidence for man-made global warming. It is held like a religious tenet among believers and anything to the contrary is dismissed out-of-hand. Even president Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have cited the 97% myth as fact, giving it an aura of legitimacy that fuels the belief.

When evidence began to surface challenging the validity of man-made global warming, believers changed tactics. They began calling global warming “climate change”, an indisputable occurrence on earth that cannot be denied. They still mean man-made global warming but the name change allows them to fend off some criticism while remaining self-righteous.

Dr. David Evans, an Australian climate modeler and mathematician, recently found errors in the basic climate model used in climate science. When he corrected the errors, he found the climate’s sensitivity to carbon dioxide to be much lower than previously assumed, reducing estimated effects on global warming almost ten-fold. Errors in climate models are not unusual because the science behind the models is not “settled”. It is an ongoing process.

The media, however, has determined the matter “settled” and uses the 97% myth to deride anyone questioning that man-made global warming is occurring at a catastrophic level. It has become more a political issue than a scientific issue resulting in billions of dollars spent solving a problem that has not been scientifically validated. It does, however, fit a political agenda and that is reason enough to continue citing 97% consesus.

Politics and science do not mix well and under the umbrella of political correctness, reasonable debate on the issue has become stifled. Perhaps that’s deliberate. The progressive agenda does not like reasonable debate – about 97% of the time.

A Nation of Pretense

August 26, 2015

We are being driven by a media willfully manipulating public opinion to accept an agenda that is increasingly at odds with reality. Political correctness has become more powerful than the law and unrealistic dreams are a basis for national policy decisions. Everybody pretends it isn’t so.

Hillary Clinton continues to pretend that a right wing conspiracy is responsible for her self-induced e-mail problems even as that ruse unravels further each day. President Obama and his band of incompetent negotiators are pretending that Iran is a legitimate nation acting in good faith even though it is clear to all that Iran cannot be trusted. Black community self-appointed “leaders” pretend there is across-the-board, systematic racism in the entire country’s police force that is resulting in the targeting of innocent black men.

The Pro-choice lobby pretends that a fetus is only a living being if a mother chooses to allow it to be one, a decision that can be made even after it is out of the womb. Until that decision is made, they pretend the fetus is little more than a blob to be cut up and sold for parts.

Celebrities pretend they are political pundits; The wealthy pretend they are not; The poor pretend they have a right to wealth; Liberals pretend to be tolerant; Progressives pretend to be social engineers; Environmentalists pretend alternate energy sources are efficient and economical; The Pope pretends to be a climatologist; Journalists pretend to be objective; open-border lobbyists pretend we don’t need borders; Democrats pretend Obamacare works; and Congress pretends it is competently working for the people.

Donald Trump became a top GOP presidential candidate simply because he does not pretend to be someone he is not. However, he pretends that details of his simple solutions, if they exist, are irrelevant to voters.

In 2016, too many voters will pretend they understand the issues and elect someone who will pretend to understand what needs to be done. We are a nation of pretense.

Deranged Alarmist Predictions

March 26, 2015

Global warming…oops…make that Climate change alarmists pontificate, extrapolate, and exaggerate in extreme ways to push their views. Senior House Democrat Barbara Lee from California takes it to a level that is as ridiculous as it is apocalyptic.

According to Lee, climate change (though she really means global warming) will cause food and water scarcity that will hit women the hardest. Why? Because it could force many women to barter sexual favors for food. Furthermore, “[F]ood insecure women with limited socioeconomic resources may be vulnerable to situations such as sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy, and poor reproductive health”.

Turning every issue into a women’s issue is getting as old as playing the race card – and of course, global warming has been predicted to disproportionately impact communities of color. Barbara Lee lumps women together with orange-spotted filefish, polar bears, Adelie penguins, North Atlantic cod, golden toads, and Asia – all of which have been predicted to be hit the hardest by global warming.

Things said to be caused, worsened, or damaged by global warming have become ridiculous. The Syrian civil war and the Ebola outbreak may sound crazy, but they seem reasonable compared to other items on an almost endless list. Global warming could produce huge harvests in places where crops have never grown or cause ice bergs to float onto shores where fresh water is desperately needed or provide new lands that are currently uninhabitable, but those predictions do not fit the agenda.

Barbara Lee has no particular background or training qualifying her to make such a prediction. All she has is a religious conviction in her belief of global warming, no doubt blessed by Al Gore, and a feminist axe to grind. Unfortunately, she is a member of the House of Representatives and that gives her a veneer of authority she does not deserve.

Saving the World at Davos

January 28, 2015

The World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland has come up with a solution to stop “humanity’s suicidal effort to heat the Earth’s climate” – aka “climate change”, once called “global warming”. The solution is to spend $90 Trillion dollars to redesign all the cities on earth to accommodate more densely packed neighborhoods, thereby, eliminating the need for cars.

This fantastic proposal comes from Al Gore who made gazillions by alarming the world with dire global warming predictions. He joined with Felipe Calderon, former president of Mexico, and several other of the world’s elite ruling class to help save the world from his predicted demise. A side benefit contained in his proposal drops the level of deforestation to zero but maybe, with a little coaxing, he will include world peace.

There are as many as 1700 private jets bringing billionaires to this year’s Davos forum to discuss how to solve the world’s problems, particularly how to reduce carbon footprints. The irony of all those jets burning fossil fuels that pollute our atmosphere is lost on attendees as was the irony of last year’s most-discussed theme, inequality.

These super rich are out-of-touch with anything approaching a normal human being’s existence. They are the cream of the 1% crop, obsessed with their own magnificence. This year, they acknowledged that Europe wasted $140 billion on green energy projects, the same fanciful projects they’ve pushed since Al Gore raised the global warming alarm.

Many of them are now preparing for the consequences of the inequality and growing civil unrest brought on by the economic chaos they helped create. Some are buying farms and airstrips in faraway places where they can escape to if things get out of hand. They will continue saving the world from those places the same as they do from Davos, convinced of their infallibility.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

What a Deal!!

November 12, 2014

President Obama struck a deal with Chinese leader Xi Jinping to limit greenhouse gases. The deal calls for the US to severely reduce carbon emissions by the year 2025 while China can continue increasing carbon emissions until the year 2030 when it will then be required to cap them. How’s that for a deal?

Using the same unique negotiation skills that couldn’t convince Iraq to allow any of our troops to remain in-country, president Obama gave the world’s largest producer of greenhouse gases the green light to continue producing them unabated for the next 15 years.

The only way he could have sweetened that deal would have been to give China the money, coal, and equipment to help increase their carbon emissions. Then, again, Obama has 2 years remaining in office to consider putting that on the table if China tries to renege by dangerously stopping carbon emissions. China is not known for sticking to deals, so it may still happen.

Next up for Obama is negotiating Eastern Europe with Russia. Don’t be surprised if he pulls off a deal swapping Poland for some prime real estate in Chernobyl. Nothing is off the table.

Earth Day

April 23, 2014

April 22 is Earth Day and has been every year since 1970. Those who are big on Earth Day are also big on hyperbole. In fact, hyperbole seems to be a golden rule for most progressives and it is used excessively when discussing the environment. Earth Day could easily be re-labeled Hyperbole Day.

On Earth Day in 1970, we were told the earth was dying and if we didn’t act quickly: Civilization will end within 15 or 30 years; 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years; it is already too late to avoid mass starvation; In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution; light will be filtered out of the atmosphere and none of our land will be usable; the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990.

Those are just a sampling of the dire predictions made in 1970. It is interesting to note that they are similar to predictions made in the 90’s about global warming which have also proved to be false. Many of these predictions supposedly had “science” behind them. Is it any wonder that science is now treated skeptically and convinces no one of anything?

Earth Day legitimized injecting phony science into politics and hyperbole into routine political rhetoric. We have been infected with both ever since and, as a result; it is difficult to know the truth about anything. Earth Day has become saturated with hyperbole, no longer providing useful or believable information concerning the health of the planet. It would not be missed were it to be struck from the calendar.
