Obama is Endangering the Country

February 9, 2016

Individuals with connections to terrorist organizations have been apprehended crossing our southern border, illegal immigrants are being used by drug cartels as conduits for heroin, children are dying at the hands of human traffickers, and dangerous criminals are crossing into the United States. Obama’s response is to double down on his open border policy.

The Obama administration has just re-instated a ‘catch-and-release” policy ordering border agents to stop arresting and deporting many new illegal immigrants. Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, said instead of cracking down, the administration issued this order to avoid further embarrassment over the number of illegals not showing up for deportation hearings. Testifying before a House Judiciary Committee, Judd said that “Immigration laws today appear to be mere suggestions” and “that fact is well known in other countries.”

Drug cartels are flooding the border with illegal immigrants carrying heroin into the country, increasing supply and lowering cost. Deaths from heroin-related overdoses nearly quadrupled between 2002 and 2013 and Obama’s border policy is dangerously escalating the heroin epidemic sweeping throughout the country.

It is not just Obama’s immigration policies that are dangerous. He has succeeded in shifting the focus of our Armed Forces onto climate change, a nebulous threat he believes is more dire and imminent than ISIS and other terrorists. His desperate agreement (appeasement?) with Iran has resulted in the return of billions of dollars of frozen assets to Iran that will finance a continued quest for nuclear weapons. He has insulted allies and lowered respect for the US around the world.

On the home front during his administration, racial tensions increased; economic growth stalled; government spending and debt escalated; health care insurance became a quagmire; and the country became further divided. He seems oblivious to it all as he continues to “transform America” according to his personal vision, a vision born from radical propaganda he was subjected to in his youth.

The danger is real, the damage is real, and the denial is real. The “dream” is not. Vote wisely.

College Coddling

December 2, 2015

At Brown University, a debate between two women on whether or not there existed a “rape culture” on campus was felt to be too traumatizing for some students. Any criticism or doubt of the existence of a rape culture was felt to be “invalidating people’s experiences” and “damaging”, so the school set up a “safe space” for students complete with cookies, coloring books, bubbles, Play-Doh, calming music, pillows, blankets and a video of frolicking puppies.

This school-provided kindergarten atmosphere is little more than a coddling of students raised in a progressive, PC culture that considers differing opinions to be “hate speech”. Colleges once deliberately subjected students to differing opinions in order to broaden their minds. That was the very goal of a “liberal” education. Now, it seems to be the exact opposite and “safe places” are proliferating on college campuses across the country to protect students from the “hostile environment” created by differing opinions.

Colleges have gone from challenging students to coddling them and the idea of “higher learning” has been lost. Remedial courses are on the increase for students ill-prepared for college and the curriculum has been dummied down at many schools to keep students matriculating. After 12 years of an overwhelming progressive and liberal education, students entering college have been conditioned to one view of complicated issues with no tolerance for dissent. Colleges are continuing that conditioning.

The government helped create this college coddling of students with the Title IX demand that schools receiving federal money (pretty much all of them) assure that the environment does not become hostile to students. Although this was addressing sexual assaults on campus, schools are playing it safe by allowing students to define “hostile environment” and, of course, it has gone overboard.

Colleges are more concerned with money than prestige, so they are coddling students used to being coddled rather than make waves (or lawsuits) by trying to expand their minds with differing views. Thus, colleges are caving in to outrageous demands and allowing students to run the show. Parents paying for much of this are the ones truly in need of “safe places”.

More Rights From the Left

September 19, 2015

Our government has now declared that it will begin using the term “sexual rights” in all discussions of human rights and global development. These “rights” will include the “right to have control over and decide freely and responsibly on matters related to their sexuality, including sexual and reproductive health, free of coercion, discrimination, and violence.”

The Center for Health and Gender Equity, admitting these “rights” are basically symbolic, considers the decision to be “the United States catching up with the rest of the world”, but it does not take much imagination to see how the progressive left, especially with regard to abortion, will use these “rights”. They will become de facto laws, and laws are always difficult to revoke once enacted.

Many assumed rights have materialized due to increasing government assistance programs and the influence of political correctness. Many now consider government-provided cell phones, food stamps, and other freebies to be “rights”. Even illegal aliens have been granted assumed “rights” as well as immunity from laws by the Obama administration.

These “sexual rights” are unnecessary, as laws already exist protecting everyone from discrimination, violence, and sexual harassment. This is nothing more than the government’s continuing effort to replace certain terms with PC jargon in its attempt to turn political correctness into the law of the land.

It is not progressive; it is repressive.

When “Rights” are Wrong

September 4, 2014

In a Labor Day speech, Obama brought up the idea of “rights” for illegal immigrants. This goes far beyond amnesty. It is an attempt to sanction and even legalize the illegality of sneaking across our border, insinuating that everyone has a “right” to come here, even illegally.

The country is currently experiencing chaos and economic stress due to Obama’s refusal to enforce immigration laws. More than 70,000 children have illegally crossed the border this year and are being sent to states for shelter, benefits, and schooling without even notifying those states. In 2013 there were 36,000 illegals awaiting deportation proceedings released from detention, many who were convicted of serious and violent crimes, and ICE declined to bring immigration charges against 68,000 other illegal alien criminals who were detained and released.

School systems across the country are being flooded with illegal immigrant children causing economic stress to the point of possible bankruptcy. It has been estimated that it will cost $760 million dollars this year to pay for their education. When you add the estimated $252/day it costs to care for each child, the total cost to taxpayers this year is estimated to be $2 billion dollars.

In spite of this impact, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, head of the Democratic National Committee, said illegals are “part of the backbone of our economy”; AFL-CIO union president Richard Trumka said he would like to see “affirmative action” for illegal immigrants; and Democratic candidate for governor of NY, Zephyr Teachout, said she wants state citizenship for illegals. What they really want is votes (and unions want their dues), but that’s hidden between the lines.

Bowing to Obama’s de facto amnesty policy, immigration court judges are setting hearing dates four years into the future while deported illegal aliens are even being invited back for reconsideration. A recently signed Memorandum of Understanding with Mexico ensures Mexican Nationals will have workplace rights regardless of their immigration status.

Considering that the net job growth in North Carolina since 2000 went to immigrants, both legal and illegal, the idea of “rights” for illegal immigrants is an insult to native-born citizens, especially those who lost their jobs in Obama’s failing economy. Sadly, it has become common practice for Obama to insult traditional Americans and international allies. It’s all part of his “transformation of America”.

Study Confirms the Obvious

August 14, 2014

Drudge informs us about a political science study that found average Americans have virtually no impact or say on public policy. Didn’t we already know that? Under the current administration, even Congress doesn’t seem to have much of an impact on public policy. These results are not “shattering”, but they do make this obvious fact official.

The study found that corporate interests and mega wealthy individuals control a lot of U.S. policy, giving as an example the corporate backing of pro-amnesty policies in spite of 70% of Americans believing that illegal immigrants threaten traditional U.S. beliefs and customs. It also determined that government almost always ignores the opinions of average citizens.

What is not mentioned is the enormous impact minorities have on getting policies implemented that the majority doesn’t necessarily want. Traditional marriage has been re-defined to appease less than 5% of the population. Health insurance as we knew it has been taken over by the government in order to provide coverage (subsidized) for less than 10% of the population. Our southern border has become an open door in order to force amnesty for illegal aliens. Abortion is being paid for by all and forced into health insurance policies to benefit 3% of women having abortions.

It’s not just squeaky wheels getting grease nowadays. Rich wheels, corporate wheels, and minority wheels are being greased while traditional American values are rusting away. The only way average Americans can impact policy is by voting, and far too many of the silent majority neglect to do that.

We have strayed far from the original intent of being a country run by the people and as we let government and squeaky wheels control more of our lives we become more apathetic and easier to be controlled. If we don’t start turning it around now, the greatest country the world has ever seen will become one of the biggest failures the world has ever seen.

Preposterous

July 28, 2014

Conservative (though often independent) columnist George Will stunned many when he told Fox News host Chris Wallace: “The idea that we can’t assimilate these 8-year-old criminals with their teddy bears is preposterous”, adding that the US should handle the problem because it is capable of doing so.

This is indicative of how difficult and emotional the border situation has become and how successful it is to use children for political purposes. It is becoming more and more apparent that Obama is using this influx of children to force his dream of amnesty. This use of children may be less dangerous than Hamas’ use of children as shields, but it is the same basic and disgusting principle.

While George Will is correct in saying the US can handle the estimated 60,000 children that have already crossed the border, the truly “preposterous” thing is that until the border is secured, that number will just increase to the point where the US can’t handle it. There has already been a 117% increase in children crossing in the past year.

It is also “preposterous” that Obama has no intention of securing the border and is now preparing to issue an executive order granting the amnesty he cannot get Congress to approve. Just the reporting of this possibility is sure to entice more to cross illegally. Whether this comes from blind adherence to an agenda or pure political manipulation, the flood at the border will increase as a result.

Seeing those children at the border tugs at everyone’s heart strings, not just George Will’s, but there are more than “8-year-olds” crossing the border. There are cartel members, gang members, and possible international terrorists taking advantage of Obama’s immigration folly. While border agents focus on taking care of children, the border is an open door to all, and that is incredibly dangerous.

Emotions need to be put aside and the border needs to be properly secured before this can be dealt with properly. It is truly “preposterous” that Obama chooses to ignore the consequences of his actions. George Will knows this, but emotions got the better of him.

Census Bureau Data Shows Bubble Bursting

April 16, 2014

For all those voting strictly for the party that continues to provide more and more government handouts, you should know that the freebie bubble is about to officially burst. Census Bureau Data shows those receiving handouts far outnumber those working to pay for them and it is only a matter of time before it all crumbles.

From cnsnews.com

Buried deep on the website of the U.S. Census Bureau is a number every American citizen, and especially those entrusted with public office, should know…In 2012, according to the Census Bureau, approximately 103,087,000 people worked full-time (35 or more hours per week)… There were 108,592,000 people in the fourth quarter of 2011 who lived in a household that included people on “one or more means-tested program“…Those 108,592,000 outnumbered the 86,429,000 full-time private-sector workers who inhabited the United States in 2012 by almost 1.3 to 1…All told, including both the welfare recipients and the non-welfare beneficiaries, there were 151,014,000 who “received benefits from one or more programs”…The 147,802,000 non-veteran benefit takers outnumbered the 86,429,000 full-time private sector workers 1.7 to 1

These numbers make it clear our current government assistance situation is not sustainable. It is also clear that we are already on our way down. If voters don’t wake up, we may possibly hit bottom during the next administration’s reign.

What Happened in 2013?

January 2, 2014

A few notable occurrences in 2013:

Obama’s bailout of the American auto industry with taxpayer money resulted in Chrysler no longer being an American company. It is now owned by Fiat, an Italian company, which profited from the bailout that, in the end, cost taxpayers $1.3 billion.

Iraq had its deadliest year since 2008 with 8,868 Iraqis killed in 2013. After Obama pulled our troops out, essentially abandoning Iraq, Al-Qaida took advantage as predicted and violence is now increasing. We also abandoned a strategic military base in Iraq that may prove costly as the Middle East continues to explode.

Obamacare kicked in with little preparation and much confusion, shocking even the hardcore left with its incompetency. Even more shocking was the revelation that Obama lied about being able to keep your doctor and health insurance plan. Sticker shock also set in as costs for insurance plans began to surface.

Smoking bans expanded to parks and beaches and higher taxes on cigarettes increased across the nation in the continuing effort to eliminate smoking. Ironically, marijuana smoking for medicinal purposes increased and legalization of the recreational smoking of marijuana kicked off in Denver where pot smoking tours for out-of-state visitors are now being conducted.

Global warming dire predictions increased in direct proportion to reports debunking manmade global warming. The declared “scientific consensus” on manmade global warming has still not been reached; the Arctic sea ice coverage increased rather than decreased; scientists’ predictions of global cooling increased; and the 17th year of no increase in global temperature was reached.

Nothing was accomplished on comprehensive immigration reform other than to re-define it as “amnesty” in everyone’s mind. More promises to secure the border were made, and ignored, while amnesty for illegal immigrants became the de facto solution for reform.

The U.S. lost more respect and credibility around the world as Obama rashly set a red line on Syria that he then blatantly ignored and allowed Iran to stall for time to obtain a nuclear weapon.

Abortion and birth control became “rights” with no personal responsibilities attached.

Miley Cyrus changed her image by lowering the decency bar for celebrities (as if it wasn’t low enough) and provided a new role model for young girls that will cause parents to lose sleep for years to come. Alec Baldwin, on the other hand, remained consistent as a complete ass.

Survival of Obamacare Will Require More Mandates

November 14, 2013

In order for Obamacare to exist, the oppressive “mandate” for all to purchase insurance needed to be re-defined as a “tax” by the Supreme Court, but it remains a mandate nonetheless. Now that the rollout of Obamacare is proving to be a disaster, more flaws are coming to light and the only way to fix them will be with more government mandates.

Obama is being forced (particularly by Democrats running for election) to fulfill his promise that we can keep the insurance plans and doctors that we have. For that to occur, insurance companies that already cancelled millions of plans will have to re-instate them. That will require a law mandating those insurance companies to do so.

When insurance companies re-instate those plans they may have to increase coverage to meet Obamacare requirements which would raise the cost. Since many want to keep those policies because of low cost, another mandate will be needed to control the cost of those plans in order for people to actually be able keep those plans – or perhaps a mandate to eliminate those existing requirements.

Enrollment in Medicare since the Obamacare rollout is increasing and they will join with new Obamacare enrollees to tax (no pun intended) the existing medical system. There has already been a trend among doctors to refuse Medicare patients because of low reimbursements, so only a mandate to force doctors to accept Medicare patients can stop that trend.

This will eventually result in a shortage of doctors which can only be fixed by mandating that patients must first see a doctor’s assistant or nurse before getting an appointment with a doctor. The Obamacare excise tax on the medical device industry will surely have other unintended consequences requiring fixing by mandate.

The only way to make people do what they don’t want to do is by government mandate – ask the USSR, China, North Korea, Syria, or any other despotic regime. People are finally waking up to find they do not want Obamacare. The choice is between more mandates or repeal (followed by sensible comprehensive health care reform) and the next elections will let you decide.

Framing the Issue Falsely – Again

August 27, 2013

On The White House Blog, Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, championed Obamacare by framing the health care issue in a way that presents a false sense of discrimination and victimhood. This framing is intentionally misleading.

Sebelius said: “Without the opportunity to live a healthy life, there is no opportunity to live the American dream or participate fully in our communities. Without the freedom which comes from having access to quality health care, there is no freedom to reach our full potential in the workforce or watch our kids or grandkids grow up.”

She is right in what she says but deliberately misleading because “opportunity” does exist to find the American dream and “access” to quality health care has been available for quite some time. “Access” is being used as a synonym for “free” by Sebelius, and that is the way the left has been framing this issue since the beginning of Obamacare in order to sell it to the masses.

“Opportunity” is also being distorted by Sebelius because she really means “entitlement”. This has been the most egregious and deliberate distortion from the left for years. The Civil Rights Movement was highly successful in providing opportunity to those who were previously deprived of it and that opportunity remains available. However, one must take advantage of that opportunity.

Ironically, it is a Hollywood celebrity who provided the best perspective. At the Teen Choice Awards, Ashton Kutcher defined opportunity perfectly when he said: “I believe that opportunity looks a lot like work”. There it is in a nutshell.

Sebelius and the left rarely use the word “work” as a verb. They use it as a noun (as in “job”) and even then it is used as something that is provided, not earned. Telling people to work for what they want does not bring votes. That, too, is the issue in a nutshell.
