A Nation of Pretense

August 26, 2015

We are being driven by a media willfully manipulating public opinion to accept an agenda that is increasingly at odds with reality. Political correctness has become more powerful than the law and unrealistic dreams are a basis for national policy decisions. Everybody pretends it isn’t so.

Hillary Clinton continues to pretend that a right wing conspiracy is responsible for her self-induced e-mail problems even as that ruse unravels further each day. President Obama and his band of incompetent negotiators are pretending that Iran is a legitimate nation acting in good faith even though it is clear to all that Iran cannot be trusted. Black community self-appointed “leaders” pretend there is across-the-board, systematic racism in the entire country’s police force that is resulting in the targeting of innocent black men.

The Pro-choice lobby pretends that a fetus is only a living being if a mother chooses to allow it to be one, a decision that can be made even after it is out of the womb. Until that decision is made, they pretend the fetus is little more than a blob to be cut up and sold for parts.

Celebrities pretend they are political pundits; The wealthy pretend they are not; The poor pretend they have a right to wealth; Liberals pretend to be tolerant; Progressives pretend to be social engineers; Environmentalists pretend alternate energy sources are efficient and economical; The Pope pretends to be a climatologist; Journalists pretend to be objective; open-border lobbyists pretend we don’t need borders; Democrats pretend Obamacare works; and Congress pretends it is competently working for the people.

Donald Trump became a top GOP presidential candidate simply because he does not pretend to be someone he is not. However, he pretends that details of his simple solutions, if they exist, are irrelevant to voters.

In 2016, too many voters will pretend they understand the issues and elect someone who will pretend to understand what needs to be done. We are a nation of pretense.

Saving the World at Davos

January 28, 2015

The World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland has come up with a solution to stop “humanity’s suicidal effort to heat the Earth’s climate” – aka “climate change”, once called “global warming”. The solution is to spend $90 Trillion dollars to redesign all the cities on earth to accommodate more densely packed neighborhoods, thereby, eliminating the need for cars.

This fantastic proposal comes from Al Gore who made gazillions by alarming the world with dire global warming predictions. He joined with Felipe Calderon, former president of Mexico, and several other of the world’s elite ruling class to help save the world from his predicted demise. A side benefit contained in his proposal drops the level of deforestation to zero but maybe, with a little coaxing, he will include world peace.

There are as many as 1700 private jets bringing billionaires to this year’s Davos forum to discuss how to solve the world’s problems, particularly how to reduce carbon footprints. The irony of all those jets burning fossil fuels that pollute our atmosphere is lost on attendees as was the irony of last year’s most-discussed theme, inequality.

These super rich are out-of-touch with anything approaching a normal human being’s existence. They are the cream of the 1% crop, obsessed with their own magnificence. This year, they acknowledged that Europe wasted $140 billion on green energy projects, the same fanciful projects they’ve pushed since Al Gore raised the global warming alarm.

Many of them are now preparing for the consequences of the inequality and growing civil unrest brought on by the economic chaos they helped create. Some are buying farms and airstrips in faraway places where they can escape to if things get out of hand. They will continue saving the world from those places the same as they do from Davos, convinced of their infallibility.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

The ObamaCar – Another Ideological Failure

December 6, 2014

Michelle Malkin informs us that Obama’s predicted 1 million electric cars on the road by 2015 will fall about 826,00 cars short of the target. Obama’s pie-in-the-sky green agenda dumped lots of stimulus money into electric cars (or, as they should be labeled, ObamaCars) and the “consensus” is that it has been an economic failure – one of many.

Much of the current failure of electric cars to catch on is due to cost and the difficulty of producing efficient batteries. The Obama administration dumped $2 billion stimulus dollars into new battery companies in the “hope” they would produce a breakthrough to help fill the roads with his electric cars. That, too, failed.

Fisker Automotive, which received a $500 million stimulus loan to produce electric cars (in Finland, not in the USA), went bankrupt last year, adding to the long list of stimulus failures. After bailing out GM, Obama praised the Chevy Volt like a new car dealer, making a campaign promise to buy one after leaving office. His campaign promises, however, have flopped as badly as sales of the Chevy Volt, so don’t hold your breath.

Electric cars aren’t a bad idea and they do work, but they are not far enough along in their development to be our main mode of transportation. Progressives, who “know” what’s best for everyone, are pushing (forcing?) these cars on us for our own good. They don’t care about cost, efficiency, practicality, or anything else that doesn’t fit their beliefs.

Obama’s entire green agenda has been based on what “should” be and not what “is” and cost means nothing because it’s only government money. If the dream fails, it’s no big deal. He’ll be out of office soon enough and cruising down the highway in his brand new Chevy Volt – given to him, free, by GM. At least he won’t have to drive a Fisker.

Another daydream; another dollar…make that a trillion dollars – and counting.

How Wrong Can One Be?

March 5, 2014

Obama has turned out to be wrong most of the time but that is rarely acknowledged by true believers. For the idealistic, he “has to” be right, therefore, failure cannot occur, but it does and it has – consistently.

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is turning out to be a catastrophe. Almost everything promised is turning out to be wrong while all the predictions heard from Senator Mike Enzi (and others) that were mocked are turning out to be right. Experts were ignored in favor of Obama’s “superior intelligence” and now provisions of the law are being delayed by Obama solely to keep the stink away from campaigning Democrats.

The Stimulus failed to revive the economy but believers claim it a success by saying our economy would be much worse if it was never put in place. Conveniently, that can never be proved, but it allows followers to deny failure and pretend they are right.

Global warming, rhetorically changed to “climate change” to ease embarrassment, fuels Obama’s continuing green policies even though predictions continue to prove wrong. Resent research conducted by the Environmental Policy Alliance shows that buildings receiving green energy certification use more energy than non-green buildings, but Obama’s “green” agenda continues to waste taxpayer money for idealistic purposes.

Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine is a direct result of Obama’s failed foreign policies. His inexperience and lack of decisiveness with Syria broadcast his weakness to the world. Putin has no fear of Obama and is taking full advantage just as Iran played him for a fool and is now on the verge of having a nuclear weapon. Allies (e.g. Israel) have been insulted while enemies have been appeased and USA world leadership and respect is at an all-time low.

Obama was also wrong about: Ushering in a “post racial” and “open door” administration; closing Gitmo; creating shovel ready jobs; Obamacare not being a tax; insurance rates going down; keeping one’s health plan; comprehensive immigration reform in his first term; Benghazi attack caused by video; Al Qaeda being decimated; unemployment reduction; and so much more.

How wrong can one be? For the sake of the country we can only hope we don’t find out.

Red Moon Rising

December 16, 2013

Like many of Obama’s decisions, the canceling of NASA’s manned moon missions was shortsighted and blind to consequences. Giving up U.S. assumed squatter’s rights put the moon up for grabs and it didn’t take long for China to make a move. There is a red moon rising and the entire world is in its dangerous shadow.

China just became the first country in almost 40 years to soft-land a probe on the moon and plans to send its first astronaut to the moon by 2030, but what comes after that is a real concern. According to several reports, China has long-term plans for transforming the moon into a missile base.

The Want China Times claims that Chinese experts are discussing the possibility of establishing a missile base and/or a weapons testing site on the moon by the year 2050. Those who sneer at this idea cite international agreements banning weapons from space as a reason for skepticism, but they forget that similar international agreements against a nuclear Iran are proving to be useless.

Arming the moon dovetails with China’s recent sword-rattling such as sending warships to the coast of Syria, threatening nuclear strikes over US involvement with Taiwan, and imposing an air defense zone over disputed islands. This red moon is rising because of a perceived weakness in Obama and his foreign policies, a weakness becoming more and more evident, and dangerous, around the world.

Obama gave Iraq to Al Qaeda; he gave Russia credibility and influence in the Middle East; he gave Iran time to develop a nuclear weapon; he gave taxpayer money to “green” companies that failed miserably; he gave enormous debt to our grandchildren; he gave pink slips to millions of workers; he gave us a health insurance law that doesn’t work; and he gave the moon to China.

Please, Mr. President, stop giving.

“Phony” Scandals Panicking Phony President

July 25, 2013

President Obama “pivoted” from issues that are drowning his administration to smoke and mirror obfuscation or, in other words, to his sweet spot. In an overly-long speech meant to shift focus away from his failing administration, Obama repeated stale economic “hope and change” rhetoric that has no bearing on reality of or the muck of his administration.

Dismissing the chaos swirling around his administration as “phony scandals”, Obama is relying on unconditional support from blind admirers to keep him above the fray, but he is mired much too deeply in the morass. The only phony thing here is his presidency, and even some of his supporters are starting to realize it.

Obama was a phony presidential candidate in 2008, having little or no experience in anything that qualified him for the top job. His rhetoric and promises turned out to be phony and his policies have been driven by personal ideologies. Obamacare, his piece de resistance, was rashly pushed through Congress to gain a political success, camouflaged by a phony concern for the uninsured.

His foreign policies have been idealistic, naive, and amateurish, sneered upon by both allies and enemies who understood right from the start that he was out of his league. His phony diplomacy has been transparent and his inability to make decisions has lowered respect for the US around the world.

His flip-flopping on the Defense of Marriage Act over the years indicates that his present backing of gay marriage is phony. He has shown to be swayed by the political wind, not his conscience. Even his attendance at Columbia University is being questioned and his “superior intelligence” has yet to reveal itself.

It is an insult for this president to dismiss legitimate concerns about the IRS, NSA, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, Snowden, Obamacare costs, HHS Secretary Sebelius, Holder’s Justice Department, Solyndra, and much, much more as “phony” scandals. One can only hope that voters will remember this insult at the voting booth and begin the recovery we desperately need.

Frightening Inauguration Speech

January 22, 2013

President Obama’s inauguration speech was a frightening glimpse into the next four years. He let it clearly be known that he is set to govern totally from the left and with carefully chosen rhetoric, he revealed his end game for “totally transforming” America.

Obama used his favorite obfuscating straw man tactic (clearly explained and revealed by Glen Beck) to validate his approach to almost everything. It is the smoke that carried him this far and will continue to do so as long as the mainstream media continues to inhale – and inhale they did.

Mainstream media praise knew no bounds and its bias could not be contained, exemplified by CNN correspondent Jim Acostas’ on-air giddiness at being so close to the president. Keeping in line with the adoration of Newsweek’s cover proclaiming Obama’s “second coming”, Obama’s communications director, Dan Pfeiffer, stated: “There’s a moment of opportunity now that’s important…What’s frustrating is that we don’t have a political system or an opposition party worthy of the opportunity.” That’s some arrogance on display.

Obama gave us his top priorities for his second term: equal pay, gay marriage, voting protections, immigration reform, and gun control. If you are in the 7.8% unemployed (the same unemployment rate as when Obama was first elected), that may be disheartening to hear but Obama also assured us that the economy is in recovery, eliminating the need to make unemployment a priority. He’d much rather increase spending.

National Defense and the military are not on the agenda because Obama informed us that a decade of war is now over. That must have occurred by means of one of his executive orders. Relief in Middle East countries will be immense when they learn of it. Perhaps part of his gun control priority will be an executive order for terrorists to turn in their guns and Iran to give up nukes.

Although Obama didn’t say climate change was a priority, one-trick-pony Al Gore still praised him for speaking “powerfully and eloquently” about it. Obama’s consistent first-term failures on the “green” front cooled his climate change desires but with no re-election holding him back, the “green” light is sure to be lit once more.

Obama’s focus on social issues got him re-elected but the larger, neglected issues are eroding the country. Obama is much more like Nero than Lincoln, blindly fiddling away as the country burns.

The Keystone Cop Obama Administration

October 3, 2012

There are so many contradictions, missteps, and outright errors occurring in the Obama administration that the infamous Keystone Cops are in danger of losing their place in American culture as the epitome of ineptness. Unfortunately, the Keystone Cops were fictional and the Obama administration is real.

One need only listen to Vice president Biden speak for more than two minutes to get a taste of the clown side of this administration. Biden’s latest gaffe, asserting that the middle class has been buried for the last four years, directly goes against Obama’s ‘blame-Bush’ message on the economy he claims to have saved. Biden inadvertently spoke the truth but will surely be taken to the woodshed because of it.

Listening to Obama’s press secretary, “Baghdad Bob” Jay Carney, rationalizing the irrational policies and actions of the administration has also been very clownish. One can almost feel sorry for Carney as he tries to spit in your ear and tell you it’s raining – almost. It usually just ends up being an insult to one’s intelligence.

Speaking of the economy, another comedy skit from this bumbling administration has Obama aide Stephanie Cutter denying they are blaming Bush while at the same time campaign adviser Robert Gibbs is blaming Bush. It seems it’s not only Biden who is confused.

The administration’s mishandling of the attacks in Libya are Keystone Cop antics displaying incompetence dangerous to our nation’s security. Furthermore, the ensuing cover-up proves that re-election is, and has been, the top priority for Obama. Admitting terrorism contradicts his boasting of beating terrorists; therefore, he blames a video.

One can only hope that at this time next year we will be repairing the damage and be able to look back with laughter at the punch lines from this administration, such as: “Solyndra green jobs”, “You can keep the coverage you have”, “Government Motors”, “You didn’t build that yourself”, “The private sector is doing fine”, “Post-racial era”, “Fast and Furious”, “Fair share”, and so many more.

If, however, this comedy show is renewed for another season, there will be little laughter and there will be little hope. We will have to resort to old Keystone Cop movies if we will want to laugh about incompetence, though they will seem like amateurs in comparison.

Obama’s GM “Success” is Failing

September 11, 2012

President Obama told us in his convention acceptance speech that “…we reinvented a dying auto industry that’s back on the top of the world”. Along with many other nebulous claims meant to give the impression of success, this one stretches the facts and insults reality.

According to Forbes’ list of top car makers in 2012, the American car manufacturer, Ford, comes in fourth and Obama’s pet project, GM, sits in seventh place. This is not quite “on the top of the world” and the fact that Ford, which refused government bailout money, beat out GM makes the claim of “reinventing” the auto industry preposterous.

Obama should be embarrassed by GM’s falling stock, down 40% since emerging from bankruptcy, in no small part fueled by financial losses from the Chevy Volt, the “green” car championed by Obama. The government provides a $7500 tax break for buyers of the Volt in an effort to make Obama’s dream car successful. Failing to bolster sales with the tax break, the Department of Defense began purchasing them in its “greening” of the Pentagon effort. (Volt retail cost is $40K.)

One could consider this a continuing bailout of GM. The government is still down approximately $25 billion from the initial $80 billion bailout and the 500 million shares of down-sliding GM stock the government owns (taxpayers own) are far below the value needed to repay the bailout money. Some financial analysts are even predicting that GM is heading back into bankruptcy.

Obama’s bold claim of success with this fiasco and his “green” investments (such as Solyndra) indicates just how little he has accomplished. If this is the best he can boast about, a second term in office makes no sense. Voters need to take a serious look behind the curtain of accolades constructed by believers in the “One”. The “hope” is gone and “change” hasn’t been for the better.

Al Gore’s Infamous Legacy

July 13, 2012

Al Gore may be laughing all the way to the bank, but the controversy he spawned over global warming has become one of the most polarizing issues in the world. Had Gore not been a politician, the attention he brought to the issue of global climate could have produced a much better result. Having already been mired in political partisanship, however, Gore’s myopic obsession produced a poisonous mixture of politics and science.

Climate change can no longer be discussed rationally or objectively and far too many climatologists have allowed politics to sway their research. The most egregious result is that “climate change” has become synonymous with “global warming” which has become synonymous with “anthropogenic (man-made) global warming”. They are not the same and that confusion permeates the media, politics, and public understanding.

Exaggerated and panic-stricken predictions about global warming have taken a tremendous economical toll. Hastily going “green” has put us in the red. The government invested heavily in the production of inefficient products that are shunned by consumers. This premature marketing effort shifted focus from research to production, stunting efforts to increase efficiency and losing vast amounts of taxpayer money. Far too many government “green” policies were rashly implemented and proving to be very costly with very little ‘bang for the buck’.

Many dire climate predictions have already proved false and much of the early data has been shown to be in error. The science of the issue is not “settled” as Gore would have everyone believe and the complexity involved causes climate models and data interpretation to continually change. Announcements of scientific proof of global warming are followed by scientific disclaimers – all from reputable scientists. How can one call this “settled”? Until the panic, or the planet, cools down, there can be no settlement.

The media’s knee-jerk reaction, sound bite philosophy, and political leaning to Gore fanned the flames. They did the same in the 70’s with predictions of a coming Ice Age based, again, on premature data. The idea of a man-made catastrophe appealed strongly to the misanthropic far-left and they jumped on Gore’s bandwagon. The rest is history, and Gore’s place in that history may very well prove to be one of infamy.
