Deaf and Dumb Democrats

December 4, 2016

Democrats are understandably still stunned and upset over Trump’s win but that is no excuse for continuing to be politically deaf and dumb concerning the reasons for losing and the lessons that should be evident.

The re-election of Nancy Pelosi as House minority leader shows a complete denial of the Democrats’ need to change. Pelosi blindly backed the Obama administration, often making a fool of herself with inane explanations and excuses. Her major contribution to her party has been her ability for fund-raising but one of the lessons from this election is that money isn’t everything. Pelosi has the same elitist arrogance that turned people away from Hillary and it will now continue to be a bane for Democrats.

Trump’s election showed that identity politics is no longer an acceptable way to govern because it disenfranchised and demeaned a large portion of the population. Far too many Democrats are unwilling to accept that the tail can no longer wag the dog. Recounting votes and looking for ways to derail Trump before he takes office is not productive.

In full denial, President Obama blamed Trump’s win on FOX News foolishly stating that it is “in every bar and restaurant in big chunks of the country”, places he has obviously not visited in quite some time. Others are blaming the media (which was totally in the tank for Hillary), Jill Stein, James Comey, white supremacy, Facebook, Twitter, misogyny, racism, conspiracies, voter suppression, the Electoral College – anything other than identity politics, a runaway progressive agenda, or obsession with social issues.

Democrats rail against any mention of a “mandate” because Hillary had more popular votes but they are ignoring the many other GOP victories in this and the past mid-term elections. They refuse to acknowledge clear indications that the tide has turned and if they remain deaf and dumb, they will become less and less relevant. The country needs both parties. Democrats need to wake up.

Now What?

November 6, 2014

The 2014 elections are over and Republicans won big, obtaining control of the Senate and retaining control of the House. It was an enormous defeat for Democrats and Obama’s agenda, but it remains to be seen if it will change the way things work, or don’t work, at the White House.

In his post-election speech, Obama claimed to have heard the message voters sent and he claimed he was willing to work with Republicans. However, it seems all he really heard from voters was that he now has to double-down on forcing his personal agenda onto the American public.

He arrogantly warned Congress to adhere to his immigration views or he would just veto whatever they come up with and issue executive orders. That’s his way of working with Republicans (political blackmail) and it is his egotistical “up yours” response to voters. Once again, it was a classless act from a classless president who never listened to or worked with Republicans – ever.

This election was a firm rejection of Obama’s direction for the country. Opinion polls back this up showing 70% angry at the current direction. Many Democrats and hardcore liberals are trying to spin the outcome differently, but that is just the same denial that caused their defeat. Believing their views are the same as the majority of Americans fueled the “transformation” that is failing and causing such discontent. It is time for them to listen even if Obama won’t.

Perhaps a Republican Congress can force Obama to do the right thing, but don’t bet on it. He does not have to run for re-election so he has nothing to lose. It may take legal action to stop his unilateral orders but he has to be stopped. He can do a lot more damage in two years if left unchecked.

Democrats have been given notice: Stop listening to the far left screamers and start listening to the American public. Blindly backing the wrong horse brought this about and it’s time for a real “change”. One can only hope they listen. Obama sure isn’t listening.

Racist Unions

May 29, 2014

All complaints against Obamacare have been met with allegations of racism. Even as predicted woes become reality, racism continues to be the rebuttal. Now, many unions are having a difficult time with the economic reality of the ACA (Affordable? Care Act) and are speaking out against it. It can only be racism.

Attorney Jim Ray, representing Laborers International Union of North America, complained that Obamacare provisions have increased construction-industry health plans’ costs by 5% to 10%, saying: “When we first supported the calls for health-care reform, we thought it was going to bring costs down”. Mr. Ray fell victim to the “if-you-like-your-health-plan-you-can-keep-it” ruse but complaining, as we have been told time and time again, is racist.

If it were just unions being hurt, we could all have a good laugh and say “it serves them right”. After all, unions were unconditional proponents of the ACA and helped propel an inexperienced Obama from community service into the White House. Unfortunately, we are all being harmed in ways that many are just beginning to realize – and there is more damage to come.

Costs are increasing rather than decreasing as promised (still denied by true believers) and, of course, unions are trying to pass increases onto employers who want workers to shoulder the burden. Some health benefits that have been negotiated over decades are now costing more and may end up having to be cut.

Strikes are imminent as workers and unions are reluctant to pay. Septa’s biggest union, Transport Workers Union Local 234, has rejected a proposal that its members contribute an additional 1% to cover ACA-related increases. Union officials say the law penalizes so-called union-sponsored multi-employer health plans – another racist remark.

In New England, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union eliminated coverage for thousands of part-time workers in order to keep benefits for full-time workers. In Las Vegas, workers at nine casinos voted to go on strike if t ACA-related increase problems are not solved by June 1.

Will Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton march against this union racism? Will Chris Matthews rail against white-dominated, racist unions? Don’t hold your breath.

Believe Nothing

April 2, 2014

So, for months and months, the administration could not give any accurate numbers about Obamacare enrollments and did not know how many who may have enrolled actually paid. Now, with the deadline for enrollment reached, they know exactly how many have enrolled and that number is 7.1 million, just slightly more than the required number the administration said it had to get to be successful. How convenient.

This victory being claimed by the administration and the mainstream media is a deliberate ruse attempting to stop the damage Obamacare is having on Democrats. They are giving no numbers for how many actually paid premiums, how many were initially uninsured, how many are now paying more, or how many had their previous policies cancelled. However, numbers are available.

A new study from the RAND Corporation puts this into perspective and invalidates the administration’s victory dance. RAND estimates that the vast majority of enrollees were previously insured, backing up the same result found by the McKinsey management consulting firm. Furthermore, the vast majority of those who actually paid premiums were also previously insured.

The whole reason for Obamacare was to insure those with no insurance and that number certainly hasn’t come close to 7.1 million. Obamacare is still a disaster causing higher premiums and deductibles along with policy cancellations for many who already had insurance. The young people needed to finance this fiasco are still not signing up and the only ones coming out ahead are those getting taxpayer subsidies. Jobs are still being lost.

The administration and the media are engaged in manipulation turning every issue into a political football in order to advance an agenda. Science is being distorted, truth is being twisted, and “facts” are being manufactured as needed. Believe nothing. Especially, believe nothing from this administration concerning Obamacare. It NEEDS to claim success in order to continue a pretense of having credibility. That, however, was lost long ago.

Survival of Obamacare Will Require More Mandates

November 14, 2013

In order for Obamacare to exist, the oppressive “mandate” for all to purchase insurance needed to be re-defined as a “tax” by the Supreme Court, but it remains a mandate nonetheless. Now that the rollout of Obamacare is proving to be a disaster, more flaws are coming to light and the only way to fix them will be with more government mandates.

Obama is being forced (particularly by Democrats running for election) to fulfill his promise that we can keep the insurance plans and doctors that we have. For that to occur, insurance companies that already cancelled millions of plans will have to re-instate them. That will require a law mandating those insurance companies to do so.

When insurance companies re-instate those plans they may have to increase coverage to meet Obamacare requirements which would raise the cost. Since many want to keep those policies because of low cost, another mandate will be needed to control the cost of those plans in order for people to actually be able keep those plans – or perhaps a mandate to eliminate those existing requirements.

Enrollment in Medicare since the Obamacare rollout is increasing and they will join with new Obamacare enrollees to tax (no pun intended) the existing medical system. There has already been a trend among doctors to refuse Medicare patients because of low reimbursements, so only a mandate to force doctors to accept Medicare patients can stop that trend.

This will eventually result in a shortage of doctors which can only be fixed by mandating that patients must first see a doctor’s assistant or nurse before getting an appointment with a doctor. The Obamacare excise tax on the medical device industry will surely have other unintended consequences requiring fixing by mandate.

The only way to make people do what they don’t want to do is by government mandate – ask the USSR, China, North Korea, Syria, or any other despotic regime. People are finally waking up to find they do not want Obamacare. The choice is between more mandates or repeal (followed by sensible comprehensive health care reform) and the next elections will let you decide.

Obama Didn’t Care

November 13, 2013

A Chicago Tribune editorial finally dares to ask: “Did he (Obama) not bother to learn the details of the law before he told us we could keep our doctors and our insurance, or did he know the truth and flat-out lie?” The answer is “yes” to both of these questions, but the worst part is that Obama didn’t care.

Obama came into office with universal health care as a personal, political priority. It was the mere passage of such a bill that mattered, not content; therefore, selling it to the public and getting it through Congress was his only goal and he approached it like all his campaigns – with wholesale, feel-good promises.

It is inconceivable that he was unaware of the negative consequences of the health care bill because Republicans were screaming about them all along. He just wanted to get the bill passed, so he focused on allaying the biggest fears many had and those were losing current plans and current doctors.

These fears didn’t come out of thin air. They came out of the health care bill itself and the warnings from those who actually read the bill. Obama knew about them and began making promises to counter those fears – just to get the bill passed. He didn’t care about the bill’s details, consequences, or flaws. He only cared about hastily getting it through Congress while it still had a Democrat majority.

The bill was passed without one Republican vote. A bill that totally changes health care’s coverage, care, and cost for every single person in the country was forced upon all by Obama and a rubber-stamping Democrat Congress.

Obama didn’t care if anyone liked it or not and he didn’t care if it would help or hurt. He only cared about getting it passed because it is all just a political game to him. His promises were deliberately misleading to help win the game. He still doesn’t care – but we certainly should.

Shocked Voters Deserve This Mess

October 31, 2013

Obamacare is falling apart badly enough to even have Chris Matthews, Obama’s biggest sycophant, question the president’s credibility on it. Hill Democrats are frustrated and publically acknowledging obvious problems for the first time. Self-righteous celebrities are now avoiding interviews about the health care law they were once blindly promoting for Obama.

It is now becoming clear that Obama knew long before now that his continued promise (lie?) of being able to keep existing health plans was not accurate. There should also be little doubt that he knew plan costs were not going to reduce across the board because that never made sense.

This fiasco should not be a surprise to anyone. It was accurately predicted by evil, heartless, racist, women-hating, war mongering Republicans who were, we were told, only against the health care law because they hate Obama and poor people. Warnings were given daily, heard only by those watching FOX News because the mainstream media didn’t want you to know.

Ignorant voters deserve this mess. Voting to make history rather than to make sense was stupid, and there is always a price to pay for stupidity. Apathy, too, comes at a price, so non-voters are just as deserving. We now have a healthcare system in turmoil, costing more, providing less, and promising even more problems and costs in the future.

Ignorance is often accompanied by arrogance, and the emotional investment many have in Obama produces both. A perfect example is MSNBC’s Ed Shultz who immediately went into denial proclaiming “there are no glitches” with the Obamacare rollout and blamed FOX News and Republicans for manufacturing glitches.

Others, such as Bill Maher and Howard Dean, have joined Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in a surreal attempt to lay blame on Republicans who, en masse, voted against Obamacare. Denial is ramping up and reality is being distorted to fit the “dream”. With the farce of “comprehensive” immigration reform (aka amnesty) up next for ramming down our throats, reality is the administration’s worst enemy and must be avoided.

Unfortunately, wise and informed voters (a voter minority) will suffer, too, but with no shock. Their shock came when an inexperienced, far left freshman Senator with a background only in community organizing was voted in as president – twice.

Shutdown is a Losing Game

October 5, 2013

Every American citizen should be embarrassed – and mad as hell. Elected officials in Washington are playing political games instead of running the government and the star of these games is the president of the United States, Barrack Obama.

For those paying attention, it is blatantly obvious that Obama maneuvered and planned for this shutdown in order to place blame on Republicans and hamper their mid-term election chances. He is now doing all he can to make this pathetic shutdown as hurtful as possible to the American public, eagerly searching for sad shutdown stories to use for his victory dance. It is as petty as it is disgusting, and Obama is unabashedly relishing the mayhem.

For those not paying attention, and there are, sadly, far too many, this stupid shutdown seems due to Republicans having a hissy fit over Obamacare. The mainstream media, carrying Obama’s water, is gleefully laying all the blame on Republicans with nary a word about his adamant refusal to even talk to those wanting to compromise.

That compromise came from House Republicans who backed down from attempting to not fund Obamacare (a losing play from the start) and tried to just make the health care law equal by delaying the mandate for individuals in the same way Obama delayed it for big business. Obama and Senate Democrats wouldn’t even talk about it.

According to an administration official, we are winning, so the length of this shutdown doesn’t matter and Obama couldn’t care less how much it hurts the American people. Boehner, rightly so, angrily called out the administration over this comment, saying This isn’t some damn game. However, most in Congress, including Boehner, are participants in this “game” and the entire country is losing badly.

It would be satisfying, and deserving, to fire Congress, along with Obama, and start from scratch with real public servants. Reality says we can only do this piecemeal through individual elections, but with a majority of voters brainwashed by the media and/or ignorant of the issues, it will be difficult to change. We had better start soon because we, the people, are losing badly and if you can’t see that, you are part of the problem.

Gambling on a Dream

July 4, 2013

Every time a new “benefit” of Obamacare kicks in, we are sorely reminded of Pelosi’s infamous remark: “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it”. Had Pelosi, Obama, and all the Obamacare cheerleaders read it beforehand, they would have been more prepared to defend the negative impacts that continue to pour out of this poorly written and hastily passed dream bill. As it stands now, they look foolish trying to defend an indefensible dream.

All President Obama wanted was to pass the bill and fulfill his personal political agenda. Consequently, he is now in constant defense mode, seemingly surprised by what falls out of the bill. He has been handing out exemptions to companies unable to handle the economic impact and his administration is totally unprepared to implement many of the bill’s provisions.

Now, Obama has decided to delay the bill’s employer mandate until after the mid-term elections, to 2015, in order to relieve campaigning Democrats of the burden that provision brings. It is a blatant political maneuver and an admission of the bill’s failure from the man still engaged in “selling” the bill, using taxpayer money, to the American people.

Obamacare has been voted on and is now the law. It is pathetic that this administration is still engaged in “selling” a law to the people, and it is even more pathetic that this administration has the audacity to delay, change, or ignore parts of this “law” as it wishes to fit its political agenda.

The fiasco this “law” has become is obvious and the damage it will cause is just beginning. Unfortunately, we, the people, deserve it. Obama was elected, twice, by people wanting to make history rather than make sense. That history will reveal to our children how we foolishly gambled their future on a dream – and lost.

Schumer’s Victory Dance

June 14, 2013

Sen. Chuck Schumer gleefully said on the Senate floor that “illegal immigration will be a thing of the past” once his immigration bill is passed. Where, exactly, is the pride in solving an illegal act by making it legal? Is that the best we can do? Apparently, it is, and it is one more sign of our escalating decline.

There is little doubt that if Schumer’s “solution” is put into place, border crossings will increase by those seeking the amnesty Schumer is eager to offer. Crossings are already rising in Texas. Schumer’s promise of securing the border later is as meaningful as “you can keep the health insurance you have”. Our government has a long history of reneging on promises and cutting funds.

When society stigmatized divorce, we made divorce easily obtainable. Today, 50% of marriages end in divorce and the family unit is crumbling. When illegal alcohol spurred out-of-control organized crime, we made alcohol legal again and organized crime flooded the country with drugs. We “solved” illegal gambling by making it legal through casinos and membership in Gambling Anonymous is steadily rising. When teen pregnancies increased, we handed out condoms in elementary schools and began actively encouraging their frequent use, resulting in a single motherhood epidemic. We “solved” the problem of dangerous back-alley abortions by making abortion legal, resulting in more and more abortions that have gone so far as murder outside the womb.

There is a pattern here. Society and our “leaders” are solving difficult problems with easy fixes and no forethought to consequences. The current easy fix being generated for our runaway drug problem is to make drugs legal. Does anyone really believe flooding the free market with legal, dangerous drugs (and that will surely be a result) will curtail their usage?

Chuck Schumer’s victory dance is not only premature, it is ridiculous. Amnesty, especially before securing the border, is a politically expedient fix for a difficult problem that will cause more problems. Obamacare is a perfect example of a hasty, politically expedient fix resulting in a nightmare.

When will we ever learn?
