Read ‘Em and Weep – By The Numbers

April 28, 2016

The following is worth pondering:

Obamacare became law in 2010 primarily to provide health insurance for 30 to 40 million uninsured (approximately 10 to 12% of the population). Today, 20 million are still uninsured, health insurance costs continue to rise, and a growing number of illegal immigrants are obtaining free health care.

It is estimated that 3.5% of the population is homosexual. Only .3% of the population identifies as transgender but there is a push to pass new restroom laws in order to make them feel comfortable. Little concern is evident for the comfort of the other 99.7%.

Concern also seems to be missing for the 8.4% who have a substance use disorder, the 47,000 who died (in 2014) from a drug overdose, or the hundreds of thousands of veterans who died waiting for applications for care to be processed.

There were 12,942 gun homicides in 2015. There are over a million abortions, 41,000 suicides, 47,000 opioid drug deaths, and 88,000 alcohol-related deaths each year.

1.2 million high school students drop out each year. Only 37% of high school seniors are academically prepared for college but 65% will enroll in college after graduating and over 20% of them will take remedial classes.

Everyone from President Obama and John Kerry to Rachel Maddow uses the 97% scientist consensus to validate global warming, a percentage proven to be totally bogus.

The government claims a 5% unemployment rate but that ignores 94 million able-bodied people who can work but choose not to work or have stopped looking for employment. 34% of all Americans financially support the rest of the country.

According to Homeland Security, 99% of illegal immigrants who overstay visas aren’t investigated.

The top 1% earners pay 23.6% of taxes, amounting to 33.7% of their income. An estimated 45.3 % of households pay no federal income taxes.

An estimated $6 “billion” was spent in the 2012 political campaigns when 126 million people voted. That works out to $47.60 spent per voter. Approximately 93 million eligible citizens did not vote.

‘Free’ Bernie Sanders

February 2, 2016

It is not surprising that aging Hillary Clinton is having trouble getting the youth vote but young Democrat voters overwhelmingly supporting the even more aging Bernie Sanders has surprised many. However, when you consider what Bernie stands for, the reasons become obvious.

Bernie Sanders is strongly pushing for a “free” college education. That is, of course, attractive to anyone facing the rising cost of a college education and the ensuing burden of a student loan. It certainly speaks to today’s youth who have been thoroughly indoctrinated by a liberal education system advocating the socialistic ideal of cradle-to-grave government care. How we are to pay for that “free” education is not clear but it is also not relevant to those wanting and expecting freebies.

Sanders calls himself a “democratic socialist” but that distinction is not understood by most and it is certainly lost on today’s youth. The failure of our education system is responsible for the lack of knowledge concerning socialism’s failure throughout history and, consequently, today’s youth are gravitating towards socialism’s vacuous promise of a utopian society. The “Occupy” movement and unrealistic demands heard on college campuses are a product of this ignorance of socialism.

Sanders takes advantage of this ignorance with his socialistic promises of a “free” college education, guaranteed health care, and $15 an hour minimum wage – in other words, freebies. He demonizes corporations and the rich and rails against income inequality, an easy sell to young workers starting at low salaries. His 90% tax rate for the rich sounds fine to those far from the top but it is not enough and the middle class will have to reach further into their pockets to help pay for all the “free” stuff.

At the age of 74, Bernie Sanders is not considered too old for Democrats who expressed concern about John McCain’s age (71) in 2008 and Ronald Reagan’s age (69) in 1980. JFK was 43–yrs-old when he took office and Obama, 47-years-old in 2008, was touted as a youthful and energetic change much needed for the country. Meanwhile, Democrats accuse Marco Rubio (44) and Ted Cruz (45) of being much too young to be president.

What is most certainly getting old is the hypocrisy – along with Sanders (74) and Hillary (68).

Denying Threats

October 5, 2015

When Romney said that Russia is the U.S.’s biggest geopolitical foe during a 2012 presidential debate, Obama scoffed, saying: “The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because the Cold War’s been over for 20 years.” Voters ignored Obama’s inexperience and naiveté and he became president with a failed policy arrogantly and egotistically treating Putin as an insignificant threat.

During a recent GOP candidate debate, Marco Rubio (accurately) predicted Putin’s current actions in Syria and he, too, was ridiculed. President Reagan was vilified for daring to call the Soviet Union the Evil Empire. Pie-in-the-sky ideology does not recognize the existence of evil-doers – unless they are Republicans.

The Left downplays or completely ignores real threats to America because recognizing them would result in taking action and that could require use of military might which they loathe. In Obama’s case, it would also mean admitting his weak foreign policies have failed, especially with regard to Russia where relations have been “re-set” by his administration. The Left picks targets that are politically correct and safe.

During Obama’s administration our troops were prematurely pulled out of Iraq; the “red line” in Syria was crossed and ignored; ISIS developed and now violently rampages in the Middle East; Iran received more time to develop a nuclear weapon unimpeded; Putin invaded the Ukraine; illegal immigrants were encouraged to and allowed to invade our country; North Korea increased threats to South Korea; and China increased expansionist activities.

The Left, meanwhile, has concentrated on threats from: Israel; Christmas and crèches; traditional marriage; FOX News; border security; profiling terrorists; decreased government spending; voter ID cards; the Tea Party; a strong military; displaying the American flag; the Washington Redskins; limits on abortion; the police; school lunches; Republicans; lower taxes; the 2nd Amendment; Confederate flags and statues; Uber; coal; the Keystone pipeline; male and female rest rooms; and even children playing tag.

Feeling Safe?

Berkeley Sets Liberal Benchmark

December 16, 2014

Recently, Filmmaker Ami Horowitz went to the University of California’s Berkeley campus to conduct an experiment. Waving an ISIS flag, making remarks favorable to ISIS, and blaming America for world terrorism, Ami was ignored or encouraged, but never challenged by passing students.

When he later switched to waving an Israeli flag and denouncing Hamas, he was continually challenged, cursed at, and vilified. Students’ hatred and demeaning of Israel was vehemently pronounced while sympathy for Hamas seemed unanimous. Terrorist organizations such as ISIS and Hamas are unabashedly supported by Berkeley and academia in general.

Berkeley, California, of course, is a leader in “progressiveness” proudly forcing marijuana dispensaries to provide free medicinal marijuana to low-income customers, enacting a tax on soda, and putting warning labels on gas pumps. While the Berkeley campus prides itself on free speech, it hypocritically has no problem banning a speech by liberal Bill Maher solely due to his view on Muslims.

Ironically, Berkeley encourages students to embrace everything liberal while refusing to follow a local ordinance raising the minimum wage. Students speak out loudly and protest often concerning political issues, but very few students (14%) bothered to vote in the mid-term elections even though there were measures on the ballot affecting student life.

Berkeley’s liberalism has “progressed” to the point where victimizing criminals, as long as they are minorities, and bashing the USA are automatic reactions. Criminals or murderers who hate the USA, such as ISIS and Hamas, are ‘twofers’ and held in even higher esteem. Berkeley isn’t the only school actively indoctrinating students to sympathize with criminals and bash the USA, but it does set the benchmark for the liberal agenda at colleges and universities across the nation.

Schools in many Arab countries are encouraging students to hate Israel and the USA and adopt terrorism as a way of life. Schools in this country are encouraging students to hate the USA and rally with criminals against the evil American “system”. What kind of future does that predict for this country? With Berkeley leading the way, can there even be a future for this country?

The ObamaCar – Another Ideological Failure

December 6, 2014

Michelle Malkin informs us that Obama’s predicted 1 million electric cars on the road by 2015 will fall about 826,00 cars short of the target. Obama’s pie-in-the-sky green agenda dumped lots of stimulus money into electric cars (or, as they should be labeled, ObamaCars) and the “consensus” is that it has been an economic failure – one of many.

Much of the current failure of electric cars to catch on is due to cost and the difficulty of producing efficient batteries. The Obama administration dumped $2 billion stimulus dollars into new battery companies in the “hope” they would produce a breakthrough to help fill the roads with his electric cars. That, too, failed.

Fisker Automotive, which received a $500 million stimulus loan to produce electric cars (in Finland, not in the USA), went bankrupt last year, adding to the long list of stimulus failures. After bailing out GM, Obama praised the Chevy Volt like a new car dealer, making a campaign promise to buy one after leaving office. His campaign promises, however, have flopped as badly as sales of the Chevy Volt, so don’t hold your breath.

Electric cars aren’t a bad idea and they do work, but they are not far enough along in their development to be our main mode of transportation. Progressives, who “know” what’s best for everyone, are pushing (forcing?) these cars on us for our own good. They don’t care about cost, efficiency, practicality, or anything else that doesn’t fit their beliefs.

Obama’s entire green agenda has been based on what “should” be and not what “is” and cost means nothing because it’s only government money. If the dream fails, it’s no big deal. He’ll be out of office soon enough and cruising down the highway in his brand new Chevy Volt – given to him, free, by GM. At least he won’t have to drive a Fisker.

Another daydream; another dollar…make that a trillion dollars – and counting.

Arrogant Overreach

November 13, 2014

Fingers are being pointed and excuses are being drummed up as Democrats scramble to find reasons for the beat-down they received in the mid-term elections. If they would step outside their agenda for a moment they would see the one basic reason: arrogant overreach.

Arrogance is a far-left characteristic that Obama brought to the White House and it infected his administration and the entire Democrat Party. It fueled the false beliefs that Obama had a “mandate” to transform America and that his far-left social engineering agenda was acceptable to the majority.

Because of these false “beliefs”, Obama was given free reign from Democrats and the media to do whatever he wished. This allowed Obamacare to get hastily passed into law by a Democrat Congress ignorant of its contents and willfully blind to the deceit used to sell it.

The quick and successful passage of Obamacare convinced Democrats they had a righteous infallibility and when combined with arrogance, it compelled them to overreach on almost every issue. Critics were demeaned, silenced, and ignored as free birth control, abortions, open borders, amnesty, higher taxes, troop pullout, drones, part-time jobs, bailouts, increased food stamps, school lunch programs, and much more was dumped onto society.

Obama and Democrats arrogantly forced too much too quickly. It was political overreach. Failure of many of Obama’s foreign policies can also be attributed to overreach. The world doesn’t accept change any quicker than society does, especially without investigating the consequences.

This mid-term election was proof of the adage that “pride comes before the fall”. One can debate whether pride or arrogance comes first, but they are almost always found together. One can also debate Jonathan Gruber’s claim of taking advantage of the “stupidity of the American voter” but it is a known fact that taking voter stupidity for granted can be perilous. Just ask any Democrat.

Democrats Politicize Ebola

October 16, 2014

It didn’t take long for Democrats to politicize the dangerous Ebola outbreak and begin blaming Republicans. A TV ad from the liberal Agenda Project tries to lay blame on Republican cuts in CDC funding for the current Ebola fiasco. The Huffington Post, some Democrat members of Congress, and even Hillary Clinton are also pointing to budget cuts to the CDC and NIH (National Institutes of Health) as reasons for poor preparation for the outbreak. These claims are easily debunked and the truth, as usual, is that government agencies are becoming more incompetent, inefficient, politically correct, and out of control.

From Michelle Malkin:

At $7 billion, the Centers for Disease Control 2014 budget is nearly 200 percent bigger now than it was in 2000. Those evil, stingy Republicans actually approved CDC funding increases in January larger than what President Obama requested…while Ebola and enterovirus D68 wreak havoc on our health system, the CDC has been busying itself with an ever-widening array of non-disease control campaigns…mandatory motorcycle helmet laws…$10 million last year to study violent video games… funded countless studies to prevent boo-boos and accidents on the nations’ playgrounds…funded studies and campaigns “promoting positive community norms” and “safe, stable, nurturing relationships” in homes and schools…Why is this the CDC’s business?

In 2000, the agency essentially lied to Congress about how it spent up to $7.5 million earmarked each year since 1993 for research on the deadly hantavirus…The CDC also misspent $22.7 million appropriated for chronic fatigue syndrome and was investigated in 2001 for squandering $13 million on hepatitis C research…the CDC has its own private funding pipeline…To date, the entity has raised some $400 million to support the CDC’s work.

Common Sense Takes a Hike in Seattle

June 4, 2014

Washington State has the highest state minimum wage at $9.32 an hour, but the Seattle city council decided that $15 an hour is better. So, the road to hell received a new paving block with the good intention of a more than 50% increase in Seattle’s minimum wage. This feel-good, idealistic ordinance will have unintended consequences and the dominoes will begin falling.

The first domino to fall will wipe out some minimum wage jobs, hurting many who were supposed to be helped by this ordinance. Employers will have to cover the cost of this wage hike by eliminating jobs and increasing the work load for others. They will also think twice before bringing on new hires at any wage level.

Some adult minimum wage workers will be replaced with teens who are allowed by this ordinance to be paid less than $15 an hour. Families desperately dependent on an adult minimum wage earner will suffer and the cost of welfare and unemployment benefits will rise (tax increase on the horizon?). The replacement of adults with teens will also bring a lower level of competence to those jobs, resulting in reduced quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Skilled workers now making $15 an hour will demand a raise – and rightly so. It would be an insult for an experienced, skilled worker to make the same hourly wage as a burger-flipper. Unions will certainly back up this demand and wages across the board will increase accordingly. As wages increase, so will prices – on everything.

Some workers will benefit from this increase, but a rising cost of living and the economic effect of other falling dominoes will make that short-lived. The idea that this will help the overall economy is similar to that of Obamacare lowering insurance premiums: Wishful thinking.

Believing something will happen does not make it so, and short-term “feel good” actions have long-term consequences. Socialist Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant gleefully tells us: “$15 in Seattle is just the beginning.” Some, however, believe it may be the beginning of the end.

Census Bureau Data Shows Bubble Bursting

April 16, 2014

For all those voting strictly for the party that continues to provide more and more government handouts, you should know that the freebie bubble is about to officially burst. Census Bureau Data shows those receiving handouts far outnumber those working to pay for them and it is only a matter of time before it all crumbles.

From cnsnews.com

Buried deep on the website of the U.S. Census Bureau is a number every American citizen, and especially those entrusted with public office, should know…In 2012, according to the Census Bureau, approximately 103,087,000 people worked full-time (35 or more hours per week)… There were 108,592,000 people in the fourth quarter of 2011 who lived in a household that included people on “one or more means-tested program“…Those 108,592,000 outnumbered the 86,429,000 full-time private-sector workers who inhabited the United States in 2012 by almost 1.3 to 1…All told, including both the welfare recipients and the non-welfare beneficiaries, there were 151,014,000 who “received benefits from one or more programs”…The 147,802,000 non-veteran benefit takers outnumbered the 86,429,000 full-time private sector workers 1.7 to 1

These numbers make it clear our current government assistance situation is not sustainable. It is also clear that we are already on our way down. If voters don’t wake up, we may possibly hit bottom during the next administration’s reign.

Believe Nothing

April 2, 2014

So, for months and months, the administration could not give any accurate numbers about Obamacare enrollments and did not know how many who may have enrolled actually paid. Now, with the deadline for enrollment reached, they know exactly how many have enrolled and that number is 7.1 million, just slightly more than the required number the administration said it had to get to be successful. How convenient.

This victory being claimed by the administration and the mainstream media is a deliberate ruse attempting to stop the damage Obamacare is having on Democrats. They are giving no numbers for how many actually paid premiums, how many were initially uninsured, how many are now paying more, or how many had their previous policies cancelled. However, numbers are available.

A new study from the RAND Corporation puts this into perspective and invalidates the administration’s victory dance. RAND estimates that the vast majority of enrollees were previously insured, backing up the same result found by the McKinsey management consulting firm. Furthermore, the vast majority of those who actually paid premiums were also previously insured.

The whole reason for Obamacare was to insure those with no insurance and that number certainly hasn’t come close to 7.1 million. Obamacare is still a disaster causing higher premiums and deductibles along with policy cancellations for many who already had insurance. The young people needed to finance this fiasco are still not signing up and the only ones coming out ahead are those getting taxpayer subsidies. Jobs are still being lost.

The administration and the media are engaged in manipulation turning every issue into a political football in order to advance an agenda. Science is being distorted, truth is being twisted, and “facts” are being manufactured as needed. Believe nothing. Especially, believe nothing from this administration concerning Obamacare. It NEEDS to claim success in order to continue a pretense of having credibility. That, however, was lost long ago.
