Read ‘Em and Weep – By The Numbers

April 28, 2016

The following is worth pondering:

Obamacare became law in 2010 primarily to provide health insurance for 30 to 40 million uninsured (approximately 10 to 12% of the population). Today, 20 million are still uninsured, health insurance costs continue to rise, and a growing number of illegal immigrants are obtaining free health care.

It is estimated that 3.5% of the population is homosexual. Only .3% of the population identifies as transgender but there is a push to pass new restroom laws in order to make them feel comfortable. Little concern is evident for the comfort of the other 99.7%.

Concern also seems to be missing for the 8.4% who have a substance use disorder, the 47,000 who died (in 2014) from a drug overdose, or the hundreds of thousands of veterans who died waiting for applications for care to be processed.

There were 12,942 gun homicides in 2015. There are over a million abortions, 41,000 suicides, 47,000 opioid drug deaths, and 88,000 alcohol-related deaths each year.

1.2 million high school students drop out each year. Only 37% of high school seniors are academically prepared for college but 65% will enroll in college after graduating and over 20% of them will take remedial classes.

Everyone from President Obama and John Kerry to Rachel Maddow uses the 97% scientist consensus to validate global warming, a percentage proven to be totally bogus.

The government claims a 5% unemployment rate but that ignores 94 million able-bodied people who can work but choose not to work or have stopped looking for employment. 34% of all Americans financially support the rest of the country.

According to Homeland Security, 99% of illegal immigrants who overstay visas aren’t investigated.

The top 1% earners pay 23.6% of taxes, amounting to 33.7% of their income. An estimated 45.3 % of households pay no federal income taxes.

An estimated $6 “billion” was spent in the 2012 political campaigns when 126 million people voted. That works out to $47.60 spent per voter. Approximately 93 million eligible citizens did not vote.

Myth Busting

October 2, 2014

Many believe progressive left-wingers hate Ann Coulter because she is an outspoken conservative, but the real reason is because she uses facts to disprove religious-like beliefs they blindly follow. Her latest column will once again cause outrage because she shows a few more “beliefs” to be nothing more than myths.

Coulter rips apart a meme based on a study saying “the purchase of a handgun was associated with 2.4 times the risk of being murdered and 6.8 times the risk of suicide”. No, it is not true and neither is the belief that emergency room admissions for domestic violence spike on Super Bowl Sundays, an oft-heard feminist mantra. Coulter shows these to be nothing more than convenient falsehoods used to help advance an agenda.

Another myth currently making the rounds due to the recent White House crasher is that Obama gets more threats than any other president (because he is black). Coulter uses facts to disprove that, too, adding the inconvenient and politically incorrect truth that those “most likely to assassinate a president are leftists, socialists, communists, Palestinian activists, crazed environmentalists and communitarians”.

Those upset with Coulter because of this column will undoubtedly use insults and demeaning names to ridicule her. They will not counter with facts because there are none backing up these “beliefs”. Name-calling is their standard retort.

The progressive left’s agenda is filled with myths: Democrats freed the slaves; there is a war on women; Republicans are racist and have no compassion; liberals are tolerant; the rich hate the poor; man-made global warming is a fact; voter ID means voter suppression; a fetus is not a living being; pro-life is anti-women; all religions are the same; the economy is doing well; Obama has superior intelligence; etc. etc.

It seems much of the left’s progressive agenda is based on what they believe “should be” and reality just gets in the way. Ann Coulter excels at delivering reality – and rubbing their noses in it.

Give ‘em hell, Ann.

Insurance or Tax?

February 20, 2013

A bill introduced in the New York State Assembly would require the state’s residents to acquire liability insurance as a condition for gun ownership. The annual cost for $1 million in liability insurance is estimated to be between $1600 and $2000.

Proponents of the bill will certainly argue that this is no different than requiring insurance coverage for car registration or home insurance in order to obtain a mortgage. There is logic to that argument, but the bill opens the door for an onslaught of requirements for insurance.

Clearly, this is a mandate to buy insurance, though it is not the same as the mandate from Obamacare because it does not require everyone to buy insurance. However, if this bill were to land in a court’s lap for a decision, could it be labeled a tax?

No one expected the Supreme Court to rule the Obamacare mandate to be a tax, especially after Obama adamantly assured us it was not a tax. However, that is what occurred and, as with many court rulings, it created a slippery slope that a NY court may decide to slide down. Stranger things have happened.

Once that door is wide open, could liability insurance be required for ownership of a bow and arrow, machete, BB gun, darts, or a nail gun? How about for ownership of a dog, baseball bat, skateboard, or a bicycle? Could a purchase of cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, or prescription painkillers require liability insurance or an additional health policy?

That may sound crazy but not too long ago it sounded crazy to buy water in bottles like soda, pay for a cable to receive free TV, hand out condoms in grade schools, or provide sex-change operations to prison inmates. Perhaps this may be a good time to buy stock in insurance companies.
