Hillary Economics

October 26, 2014

Hillary’s attempt to distance herself from Obama as she campaigns for the White House took an odd turn this week. In essence, she agreed with and furthered Obama’s claim that “If you’ve got a business – you didn’t’ build that – Somebody else made that happen” by stating: “Don’t let anybody tell you that it’s corporations and businesses that create jobs.”

This is the same Obama narrative that government is great, provides everything good, and more government will be good for the economy. She furthered that narrative by stating raising the minimum wage doesn’t cost jobs, it leads to job gains.

It is a myth that one of the government’s functions is to create jobs. Growing the government larger, of course, creates government jobs, but that doesn’t help the economy recover because those jobs depend on taxes paid by people with non-government jobs. Government growth cannot be sustained that way and the economy cannot recover that way. Minimum wage increases do not create jobs, especially in the short run. If we fail to help the economy in the short run when it is failing so badly, there may be no long run.

Hillary economics looks a lot like Obama economics. Hillary is not the answer just as Obama has not been the answer. The answer is a change in direction from top to bottom. Vote wisely.

Common Sense Takes a Hike in Seattle

June 4, 2014

Washington State has the highest state minimum wage at $9.32 an hour, but the Seattle city council decided that $15 an hour is better. So, the road to hell received a new paving block with the good intention of a more than 50% increase in Seattle’s minimum wage. This feel-good, idealistic ordinance will have unintended consequences and the dominoes will begin falling.

The first domino to fall will wipe out some minimum wage jobs, hurting many who were supposed to be helped by this ordinance. Employers will have to cover the cost of this wage hike by eliminating jobs and increasing the work load for others. They will also think twice before bringing on new hires at any wage level.

Some adult minimum wage workers will be replaced with teens who are allowed by this ordinance to be paid less than $15 an hour. Families desperately dependent on an adult minimum wage earner will suffer and the cost of welfare and unemployment benefits will rise (tax increase on the horizon?). The replacement of adults with teens will also bring a lower level of competence to those jobs, resulting in reduced quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Skilled workers now making $15 an hour will demand a raise – and rightly so. It would be an insult for an experienced, skilled worker to make the same hourly wage as a burger-flipper. Unions will certainly back up this demand and wages across the board will increase accordingly. As wages increase, so will prices – on everything.

Some workers will benefit from this increase, but a rising cost of living and the economic effect of other falling dominoes will make that short-lived. The idea that this will help the overall economy is similar to that of Obamacare lowering insurance premiums: Wishful thinking.

Believing something will happen does not make it so, and short-term “feel good” actions have long-term consequences. Socialist Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant gleefully tells us: “$15 in Seattle is just the beginning.” Some, however, believe it may be the beginning of the end.

How Wrong Can One Be?

March 5, 2014

Obama has turned out to be wrong most of the time but that is rarely acknowledged by true believers. For the idealistic, he “has to” be right, therefore, failure cannot occur, but it does and it has – consistently.

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is turning out to be a catastrophe. Almost everything promised is turning out to be wrong while all the predictions heard from Senator Mike Enzi (and others) that were mocked are turning out to be right. Experts were ignored in favor of Obama’s “superior intelligence” and now provisions of the law are being delayed by Obama solely to keep the stink away from campaigning Democrats.

The Stimulus failed to revive the economy but believers claim it a success by saying our economy would be much worse if it was never put in place. Conveniently, that can never be proved, but it allows followers to deny failure and pretend they are right.

Global warming, rhetorically changed to “climate change” to ease embarrassment, fuels Obama’s continuing green policies even though predictions continue to prove wrong. Resent research conducted by the Environmental Policy Alliance shows that buildings receiving green energy certification use more energy than non-green buildings, but Obama’s “green” agenda continues to waste taxpayer money for idealistic purposes.

Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine is a direct result of Obama’s failed foreign policies. His inexperience and lack of decisiveness with Syria broadcast his weakness to the world. Putin has no fear of Obama and is taking full advantage just as Iran played him for a fool and is now on the verge of having a nuclear weapon. Allies (e.g. Israel) have been insulted while enemies have been appeased and USA world leadership and respect is at an all-time low.

Obama was also wrong about: Ushering in a “post racial” and “open door” administration; closing Gitmo; creating shovel ready jobs; Obamacare not being a tax; insurance rates going down; keeping one’s health plan; comprehensive immigration reform in his first term; Benghazi attack caused by video; Al Qaeda being decimated; unemployment reduction; and so much more.

How wrong can one be? For the sake of the country we can only hope we don’t find out.

Democrats Running on Excuses

February 19, 2014

In spite of MSNBC’s biased campaign to make “Bridgegate” a momentous issue, polls continue to show that unemployment remains the most important issue for voters. Unless there is a miraculous economic recovery in the next six months, Democrats will have nothing but excuses to campaign on for November’s elections.

Obamacare has been a disaster and many Democrats are trying to distance themselves from it, however, its negative impact on jobs can’t be avoided. After a CBO report estimated a 2 million job loss by 2017 due to Obamacare, panic forced Democrat’s to say that losing jobs “empowers” people to make choices about their lives.

Harry Reid put out the foolish talking point that “…It allows people to get out of a job they’re locked into”. It is an insult to those losing a job to be told they should now feel “empowered” because they are no longer “locked” into gainful employment. Perhaps, they should use this “empowerment” in the voting booth come November.

The CBO report validated the “racist, Obama-hating” predictions that the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) will create a disincentive to work and force many to work fewer hours due to part-time jobs replacing full-time jobs. This, too, brought out a panicky excuse that it will provide more choices, particularly the choice to “not work”. This is so lame it is embarrassing just to hear it.

Speaking of embarrassing, Secretary of State John Kerry is desperately trying to turn voters’ attention away from the poor economy by stirring up fear over man-made “climate change”, once called “global warming” until that began unravelling. He called it our greatest terror threat but he’s going to need excuses for all the failed, dire predictions and contrary data before anyone buys his Al Gore impersonation.

From Chris Matthews blaming the sun for a poor Obama speech to Sebelius blaming arcane insurance terminology for Spanish translation mistakes, excuses are becoming the Democrat platform in the face of administration failure. There will certainly be more as November approaches, but there will be no excuse for the silent majority if they sit home and allow this farce to continue. That would simply be a disaster.

Red Moon Rising

December 16, 2013

Like many of Obama’s decisions, the canceling of NASA’s manned moon missions was shortsighted and blind to consequences. Giving up U.S. assumed squatter’s rights put the moon up for grabs and it didn’t take long for China to make a move. There is a red moon rising and the entire world is in its dangerous shadow.

China just became the first country in almost 40 years to soft-land a probe on the moon and plans to send its first astronaut to the moon by 2030, but what comes after that is a real concern. According to several reports, China has long-term plans for transforming the moon into a missile base.

The Want China Times claims that Chinese experts are discussing the possibility of establishing a missile base and/or a weapons testing site on the moon by the year 2050. Those who sneer at this idea cite international agreements banning weapons from space as a reason for skepticism, but they forget that similar international agreements against a nuclear Iran are proving to be useless.

Arming the moon dovetails with China’s recent sword-rattling such as sending warships to the coast of Syria, threatening nuclear strikes over US involvement with Taiwan, and imposing an air defense zone over disputed islands. This red moon is rising because of a perceived weakness in Obama and his foreign policies, a weakness becoming more and more evident, and dangerous, around the world.

Obama gave Iraq to Al Qaeda; he gave Russia credibility and influence in the Middle East; he gave Iran time to develop a nuclear weapon; he gave taxpayer money to “green” companies that failed miserably; he gave enormous debt to our grandchildren; he gave pink slips to millions of workers; he gave us a health insurance law that doesn’t work; and he gave the moon to China.

Please, Mr. President, stop giving.

Framing the Issue Falsely – Again

August 27, 2013

On The White House Blog, Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, championed Obamacare by framing the health care issue in a way that presents a false sense of discrimination and victimhood. This framing is intentionally misleading.

Sebelius said: “Without the opportunity to live a healthy life, there is no opportunity to live the American dream or participate fully in our communities. Without the freedom which comes from having access to quality health care, there is no freedom to reach our full potential in the workforce or watch our kids or grandkids grow up.”

She is right in what she says but deliberately misleading because “opportunity” does exist to find the American dream and “access” to quality health care has been available for quite some time. “Access” is being used as a synonym for “free” by Sebelius, and that is the way the left has been framing this issue since the beginning of Obamacare in order to sell it to the masses.

“Opportunity” is also being distorted by Sebelius because she really means “entitlement”. This has been the most egregious and deliberate distortion from the left for years. The Civil Rights Movement was highly successful in providing opportunity to those who were previously deprived of it and that opportunity remains available. However, one must take advantage of that opportunity.

Ironically, it is a Hollywood celebrity who provided the best perspective. At the Teen Choice Awards, Ashton Kutcher defined opportunity perfectly when he said: “I believe that opportunity looks a lot like work”. There it is in a nutshell.

Sebelius and the left rarely use the word “work” as a verb. They use it as a noun (as in “job”) and even then it is used as something that is provided, not earned. Telling people to work for what they want does not bring votes. That, too, is the issue in a nutshell.

Leftist Denial Intensifying

March 11, 2013

It seems that the public’s continued lowering opinion of the media, Congress, and the president has had an effect on leftist denial, but it has been to increase it rather than decrease it. The hardcore left is doubling down instead of backing off.

Unconditional, and irrational, adoration of Obama broke new ground with Sports Illustrated naming president Obama as one of the 50 most powerful people in sports. Sounding like a Saturday Night Live skit (or a North Korean news story about their leader), SI considers Obama’s off-handed and un-presidential remarks about various sports as powerful influences.

Nancy Pelosi continues to make senseless statements intended to elicit unconditional acceptance of the administration’s agenda. She redefined tax cuts as spending, adding that we should cut spending by ending tax cuts. Furthering her distance from reality, she also said that Obama has been very bipartisan.

California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, arguing for gun control, asserted that “…it’s legal to hunt humans with 15-round, 30-round, even 150-round magazines”. Perhaps in Feinstein’s personal Bizarro world this may be true, but it makes her sound battier than Pelosi – a difficult thing to do.

Refusing to bow to the pressure of reality, the Associate Press continues spin for Obama by lauding a recent drop of .2% in the unemployment rate, adding: The American job market isn’t just growing. It’s accelerating”. Chris Matthews certainly agreed, wondering when Obama would get “credit for this amazing economy that’s coming back”. For those who have given up looking for a job or forced to settle for a part-time job, this job market is far from having an amazing acceleration.

With reports of global temperatures remaining stable for the past decade, one would think Al “global warming” Gore would take his fortune along with his panic and just go away. Instead, he continues to present himself as a science expert with a new book, “The Future”, expecting his credibility to be intact. It isn’t, but many caught up in political inertia still buy his act.

Perhaps it is true that a good offense is the best defense, but leftist denial propaganda is stale, overexposed, and seemly. It is time to give up that ghost.

Obama’s Economy

November 16, 2012

The election is over and the future for businesses is now on a clearer path. This is Obama’s economy and Bush can no longer be blamed.

Xerox to layoff 2500 employees.

Texas Instrument to layoff 1700 employees.

NBCUniversal final count of 500 employee layoffs.

Hostess shutting down – 18,500 jobs lost.

Panasonic to layoff 10,000 workers.

Cummins to layoff 1500 workers.

There is an avalanche of layoffs occurring in the wake of Obama’s re-election and there is no way to spin this positively. On the bright side, free contraceptives and food stamps will ease the burden for laid off workers.

Election Results Still Coming In

November 10, 2012

Election results continue to pile up days after the votes have been counted. Too many voters chose to ignore the ongoing economic disaster and based their votes on emotions, social issues, personal beliefs, and feel-good issues rather than the failures Obama’s policies have created. Consequences of such irresponsible voting are already starting to occur and will be hard to ignore.

Many companies waited anxiously for election results before making business decisions that affect the job market and unemployment because the direction of government policies was in the balance. With Obama’s re-election, that direction became clear and decisions are being made quickly. Layoffs are now occurring daily as businesses are making plans for a future that is not economically favorable for expansion.

Large companies such as Boeing, Westinghouse and Bristol-Myers, and many smaller companies are reducing their workforce in order to offset increasing costs that Obamacare and other administration policies will bring.  There should be no surprise at this since warnings were given beforehand, but too many voters did not listen.

The Obama administration, along with a compliant media, chose to focus on emotional and social issues that enticed voters ignorant of the economic consequences. Many of those same voters will now lose their jobs and be forced to face the economic reality of another Obama term. The pressing issue of “jobs” and Obama’s failure to promote confidence in the business community was deliberately minimized and hidden.

Voter ignorance has always been a problem, but with the economic crisis affecting the world today, the consequence this time around could be devastating. Obama-voters finding themselves suddenly unemployed may be taken by surprise, but they were warned and should have paid attention. Unfortunately, everyone else is also going to have to pay the price for their dream. That dream is already turning into a nightmare for many.

Obama’s Dangerous Campaigning

September 30, 2012

Obama’s prime occupation for the past year has been campaigning for re-election. Refusing to ask hard questions, the biased media has been a willing partner in Obama’s attempt to hide his failures in order to get re-elected. Rather than investigate the administration’s glaring missteps and blunders, the media has focused on finding fault with Romney while echoing administration spin. This obsession with re-election has become a danger to the country.

Afghanistan, Obama’s “right” war, is failing and the American death toll is approaching 2000 at a current rate of approximately one per day. That’s slightly less than half the toll from 8 years of the Iraq war, and neither Obama nor the press mentions it. This is a far cry from the nightly reports of war deaths during the Bush administration. Afghanistan, for Obama’s sake, has become a silent, hidden war – and it is failing.

The economy, a definite smear on the Obama administration, continues to be spun as “recovering” in spite of all data and statistics, and voters are being told Obama has saved us from disaster. One need only look around to see the fallacy in this, yet, the spin continues in the hope of repetition becoming fact in voters’ minds.

Perhaps the most dangerous failure of Obama has been on the international front. Iran sneers at Obama and is on the verge of having nuclear weapons. Recent embassy attacks and deaths have been determined to have been planned terrorist actions and the administration is still immersed in blaming them on a video clip. The cover-up is part of a re-election campaign considering danger to the country as irrelevant.

We have had an absentee president for the past year and it is taking a toll. There is no national budget, immigration reform has been ignored, the Middle East is exploding, the economy is failing, class warfare is raging, the race card is alive and well, “green” policies hamper economic recovery, the deficit is increasing, and the media has lost all credibility

Obama’s solution is fund-raising, appearances on “The View” and “David Letterman”, ignoring national leaders, cover-ups, Romney bashing, and empty rhetoric. Four more months of this kind of irresponsible neglect is frightening. Four more years would be disastrous.
