Rising Censorship

September 25, 2014

River Springs Charter Schools in California instructed librarians to remove Christian-themed publications as well as any books written by Christian authors or distributed by Christian publishers from the shelves. One supposes the next step would be to burn them.

Imagine, if you can, that a school ordered the removal of books by gay authors, black authors, or Muslim authors. The uproar would be monumental and the media would swarm like bees. The very idea of banning books usually brings outrage but removing Christian books is not even news-worthy.

It wasn’t just subject matter determining removal. Mere association with Christianity was the criteria being used and that brings this to a new level that should be frightening to all. It puts Christianity on the same progressive-deemed evil level as guns, smoking, virginity, and American tradition. It also ramps up the far-left’s censorship campaign.

Blind to its own hypocrisy, the far-left continually tries to censor opposing views while forcing their progressive agenda everywhere. In schools, many books with homosexual, pro-Islamic, or pro-abortion content are pushed onto students and parent’s attempts to remove them are met with indignant diatribes on free speech and diversity. Crosses, bibles, prayers, or even American flags, however, are not allowed because they “might” offend someone.

This rise in censorship was encouraged by Obama’s election. The far-left felt that one of theirs was now in the White House and, therefore, believed the majority agreed with their agenda and silencing of the opposition. Obama started speaking out against FOX News and progressed to the point where reporters now say the White House demands they change their reports to be more favorable to the administration.

From the LA Times refusing to print letters from global warming “deniers” to network news shows ignoring stories unfavorable to the administration, attempts at censorship by the left are increasing. A change in Washington is needed to stem the tide of censorship. Use your vote wisely or that, too, could end up censored.

When “Rights” are Wrong

September 4, 2014

In a Labor Day speech, Obama brought up the idea of “rights” for illegal immigrants. This goes far beyond amnesty. It is an attempt to sanction and even legalize the illegality of sneaking across our border, insinuating that everyone has a “right” to come here, even illegally.

The country is currently experiencing chaos and economic stress due to Obama’s refusal to enforce immigration laws. More than 70,000 children have illegally crossed the border this year and are being sent to states for shelter, benefits, and schooling without even notifying those states. In 2013 there were 36,000 illegals awaiting deportation proceedings released from detention, many who were convicted of serious and violent crimes, and ICE declined to bring immigration charges against 68,000 other illegal alien criminals who were detained and released.

School systems across the country are being flooded with illegal immigrant children causing economic stress to the point of possible bankruptcy. It has been estimated that it will cost $760 million dollars this year to pay for their education. When you add the estimated $252/day it costs to care for each child, the total cost to taxpayers this year is estimated to be $2 billion dollars.

In spite of this impact, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, head of the Democratic National Committee, said illegals are “part of the backbone of our economy”; AFL-CIO union president Richard Trumka said he would like to see “affirmative action” for illegal immigrants; and Democratic candidate for governor of NY, Zephyr Teachout, said she wants state citizenship for illegals. What they really want is votes (and unions want their dues), but that’s hidden between the lines.

Bowing to Obama’s de facto amnesty policy, immigration court judges are setting hearing dates four years into the future while deported illegal aliens are even being invited back for reconsideration. A recently signed Memorandum of Understanding with Mexico ensures Mexican Nationals will have workplace rights regardless of their immigration status.

Considering that the net job growth in North Carolina since 2000 went to immigrants, both legal and illegal, the idea of “rights” for illegal immigrants is an insult to native-born citizens, especially those who lost their jobs in Obama’s failing economy. Sadly, it has become common practice for Obama to insult traditional Americans and international allies. It’s all part of his “transformation of America”.

Zero Tolerance Results in Zero Sense

December 10, 2013

Since zero tolerance policies became popular, common sense and good judgment have gone out the window and those in authority are behaving more like robots than intelligent beings. They are behaving like fast food restaurant cashiers pressing pictures of food items rather than numbers on cash registers. Decisions like the one below are the result of removing intelligent discretion from authority.

From cnsnews.com

On Wednesday, the Rutherford Institute announced it has come to the defense of a 10-year-old boy who was suspended under a school zero tolerance policy for shooting an imaginary “arrow” at a fellow classmate, using nothing more than his hands and his imagination.

Johnny Jones, a fifth grader at South Eastern Middle School, was suspended for a day and threatened with expulsion under the school’s weapons policy after playfully using his hands to draw the bowstrings on a pretend ‘bow’ and ‘shoot’ an arrow at a classmate who had held his folder like an imaginary gun and ‘shot’ at Johnny.

Politically Correct Halloween

October 24, 2013

Christmas, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and most traditional holidays, have been targets of the “progressive” PC police in recent times, so it is not surprising to find Halloween under attack. It seems that those who self-righteously consider themselves champions of personal freedom are, once again, shamelessly trying to dictate everyone’s way of life and “transform” America.

The PC Command Center is our nation’s schools and it is there attacks begin. The Cumberland County, PA school district no longer allows costumes or parades for Halloween, citing “safety concerns” as reason for the ban. They do, however, allow dress-up days throughout the year for students to express individual creativity. That would probably include the PC-approved cross-dressing day held at a Milwaukee elementary school.

Inglewood Elementary School in the North Penn School District tried to ban Halloween using the popular and misinterpreted “Separation of Church and State” excuse. As extra ammunition, dietary concerns, specifically peanut allergies, were included. After an angry outcry from those whose sensitivities were supposed to have been rankled, the ban was lifted.

Colleges, however, have very little backlash when they “mold” the minds of students. Banning Halloween can be done in such a way that students do not even realize banning is taking place. The University of Colorado warns students to avoid costumes such as cowboys, Indians, white trash (which I’m sure includes hobos), over-sexualized themes (geishas, French maids), and anything portraying a culture (Pirates, gypsies, Mexican bandits?). The University of Minnesota allows cowboy costumes but not Indian ones or any that perpetuate racial, cultural, and gender stereotypes.

So, traditional baseball and football costumes are out because of the offensive Washington Redskins, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and Kansas City Chiefs. Robots are offensive because they replace human workers. President Obama masks are racist and President Bush masks are…well, Bush is just plain evil. Darth Vader is synonymous with Dick Cheney and a witch is synonymous with Sarah Palin and, of course, any priest or nun costume is highly offensive to progressives.

Halloween is becoming as hollow as the PC movement and progressive ideology, but nowhere near as frightening.

It’s All About the Kids, Right?

June 14, 2013

From Ben Shapiro at Breitbart

…in the Los Angeles Unified School District, two perfect attendees throughout high school received new Chevrolet Sonics, priced at $18,000, for showing up to school every day. During the 2012-2013 school year, LAUSD has handed out monthly prizes to kids who were present every day…the LAUSD system is paid by the state of California only for attendance. Every student is worth $32 per day from the state to the LAUSD system. That means that when students skip school, the unionized teachers and administrators pay the price…It isn’t Oprah running LAUSD and handing out cars. It’s the teachers unions, which are mainly concerned with creating bizarre incentive systems to get butts in the seats rather than knowledge in the brains.

Another Nanny State Failure

September 26, 2012

Idealism begat socialism which begat the Nanny State where “choice” is taken from the individual and given to the government which supposedly knows best about all things and provides everything one needs in order to live happily ever after. The intent may seem good but, as everyone knows, intentions pave the road to hell.

Obama embraces the Nanny State and has been forcing idealistic policies that fail miserably when confronted with reality. Solyndra failed because the technology is not efficient or economically feasible. The Chevy Volt is failing because it is premature technology forced upon the public, wasting taxpayer money. The entire coal industry has been decimated by a “green” policy blind to consequences and reality. Dependency on foreign oil remains a problem while our own oil is left untapped because of idealistic notions.

The latest Nanny State failure, pushed by Michelle Obama, is the school lunch “mandate” from the Department of Agriculture. This mandate forces schools to eliminate popular foods and offer reduced calorie lunches (at a higher cost, of course) of healthy foods such as humus and black bean salads to children who, as any parent knows, usually abhor them. Consequently, children are throwing away the food and going hungry rather than eating what Michelle knows is best.

The mandate’s “one size fits all” calorie cap doesn’t account for student athletes and others needing more calories and certainly doesn’t satisfy the appetites of teenagers. High school football players can burn up to 3,000 calories a day and the 850 calorie maximum doesn’t work for them. Children are going hungry and parents are protesting in anger. The slippery slope of government mandates is once again causing havoc – and failing.

On the positive side, Obama could learn much-needed economic lessons. Students are protesting by bringing lunch to school rather than buying it in cafeterias, hitting schools in the pocketbook. A student black market in items such as chocolate syrup is springing up, demonstrating the backbone of a market economy: “supply and demand”. Perhaps Obama will also learn that a government program, even when mandated, is useless when people won’t use it. Then, again, Obama knows best – right?

The Nanny State Takes Over School Lunches

April 15, 2011

At a Chicago public school, parents have been deemed too incompetent to pack their kids’ lunches, and the nanny state has taken over.

The principal claims that she is “protecting students from their own unhealthful food choices.”

What ever happened to teaching the kids about nutrition and healthy eating? Instead she’d rather make them dependent on someone else for healthy food because she thinks the kids and their parents are too stupid to make healthy food choices.

Read about it here.
